Studying in London? Here are 5 spots for dinner with a view!

I think we can all agree that London has some breathtaking views; particularly during the evenings when the city lights up. And what better way to take in these views than by enjoying a great dinner in the heart of the city and sampling the varied cuisines the capital has to offer. Here is a round up of my top 5 dinner locations in London with stunning views of the city!   1.) The Shard, 32 London Bridge Street One of the best known spots for dinner in London with panoramic views of the city. The Shard boasts a number of culinary delights under one roof. The location has some of the best views of the city as restaurants are located within London’s tallest building. There are restaurants here to suit everyone’s taste, from British classics to Chinese cuisines and more. The views of the city at sunset and night make any of the restaurants a great choice particularly for special occasions. PS. This would make a great suggestion for a celebration with friends after completing your course at EC London 30+!   2.) Big Easy, London Canary Wharf Another great location with views of London’s Canary Wharf. Big Easy serves up a BBQ inspired menu with plenty of seafood options too. There’s also a pretty cool bar! Diners here are treated to a stunning view of the river below as well as the impressive buildings in London’s financial district.   3.) Heron Tower, Duck & Waffle/Sushi Samba Situated close to London Liverpool Street is Heron Tower, in which you can find 2 different but equally great restaurants. Sushi Samba is popular as it brings together a range of world cuisines under one roof. The restaurant is located across the 38th and 39th floor, which gives an epic view of … Read more

New intern at EC London 30+

Hi, I am Deanna, I’m 23 years old and I’m a student. I come from the State Tourism and Hotel Management School Switzerland.  I’m here at EC London +30 to do an internship, it is an experience that is helping me to improve my professional skills and the use of the language. In the past I worked in many sectors like welfare, administration, accountancy and soon on. And now I begin my adventure in tourism. I started to love travel and everything that it represents when I was a child. I remember my first solo trip, I went to Germany to learn the language, it was an experience that permitted me to grow mentally. I am a bit of an introverted person, but the team of EC are very helpful and friendly, and I hope to learn all that I can from them. After my internship I have already “organised” my possible next destination, it will be Scandinavia, and my dream is to visit all the cold nations by boat with my family, the problem is that they don’t like the cold, but I’m sure I can convince them ?. Something about me: clearly, I love travel, but my main difficulty is that I need to organise everything in minimum details, and consequently I can’t live the experience 100%. But on the other hand, I am a person dynamic and I need to have something to do, I can’t stay still. In fact, one of my favourite sports activities is walking. When I’m alone or bored I take my bottle of water and I go around. While during my typical Sunday I like to draw, I’m not a real artist but that relax me. Thanks for reading, Deanna ?   Ready for this adventure EC London 30+

The Lion King

Hello everyone, hope all of you are enjoying London and its surrounding ! On the 18th of June, EC London students had the great pleasure to enjoy some of the beautiful art, London city has to offer. Bright colours, mesmerizing and powerful singing and of course great acting. Twenty of our students had the chance to reminisce about childhood memory for 2 hours and 30 minutes, with The Lion King Musical at Lyceum Theatre. This musical was for us a great way to meet again our childhood friends, Simba, the famous duo Pumba and Timon, as well as chatty bird, Zazu. The Lion King musical was inspired by the original Disney movie The Lion King; indeed, we followed the journey of the little lion Simba, son of the lion king, Mufasa. It will take a long way for Simba to eventually succeed to his father after his death. I can say that I had goosebumps from the first second the musical started with the famous song, “circle of life” and all the majestic animals coming together as one on the stage. I can assure you that our students experienced all stage of emotion starting with laughter thanks to Zazu and the wise monkey Rafiki. The excitement and the satisfaction could be felt as soon as the curtains went down with the large crowd cheering along with the last melody of African percussion. If you are a theatre lover or would like to have your first theatre experience with EC 30+ London, make sure to join the EC London family my dear friends.

EC London 30+ One Weeker student

Hi guys! Elora speaking from the EC London 30+ team. Last Friday I interviewed Marie, a one weeker +30 student from France. Let’s see what she has to say about her week in London. Hi Marie! So, let’s begin. Where are you from? I am from a small village under Paris, in the South. Why do you want to learn English? Well, I love the language and the British literature. I also wanted to learn in order to travel in English speaking countries with my family. Also, I own a campsite in France and I have a lot of clients speaking English. So, I thought it could be great to learn the language in order to speak better with them. Why London? Coming in London has always been a dream. It’s a beautiful city! And I was interested about the different customs that people have here so I chose to come around and feed my curiosity! And why EC London? Well, I have a friend called Marie Manguy, an English teacher in France, who told me that EC London was a great school. So, I just followed her advice… and here I am! What do you think about the school and the classes? The school is very good. All the teachers are nice and I enjoyed classes where we used authentic resources (for example: Youtube, Radio, Internet…) The level was perfect, not too simple or too hard. And I had an international group in my class, so I spoke with a lot of people coming from all around the world! Also, the school has a good situation. It’s in Central London and just 1-minute walking from Euston Station. It’s good when you want to visit the city after classes! Do you think your English is better after this week here? … Read more

An interview of Lisiê, a 30+ student

Hi, this is Elora from EC London 30+. Let me introduce one of our student and her story. Lisiê, a 30+ student, is from Brazil but before coming to London, she spent a few days in Portugal with her sister. She used to travel a lot, from the US to Europe for instance. “I love to travel! So, since I like the British culture and want to improve my English, I chose to go to London” she said. Unfortunately, she faced some issues when she arrived in the UK. “There was a misunderstanding and I was really nervous. I didn’t know what to do.” It’s true that being alone in a country you don’t know can be sometimes difficult. But no matter what the problem is, the school will help any students who is in trouble. Luckily, Alex managed to help her and the problem was solved in 2-3 days. “Alex was so nice to me, and super efficient. She was very patient and she reassured me. At the end, my problem was quickly resolved with the help of the staff.” Today, Lisiê’s problem is solved and she is relieved. “The school was perfect in helping me with my problem” she said. “Now I can enjoy my English classes without worrying about anything so again, thank you very much guys!” Lisiê has a pre-advanced level and she seems to be very happy with her classes. “The level is perfect, neither too simple nor too difficult”. When she was in Brazil, she had a pre-intermediate level and with private classes and the English workshop, she quickly improved her level. “I want to do my best here and I look forward to improve more and more my English” she concluded. And of course, we wish her all the best!

From France to London

Hi! I am Elora, a 20 years old student coming from the University of Strasbourg in France. I am doing an internship in EC London in order to finish my Applied Foreign Languages degree and after many struggles and hesitations, I am well settled and ready to begin a new life in London! My boyfriend is also coming with me and will work at the Apple Store of Brent Cross, starting in the middle of May. Since he must end his job contract in France at first, I managed to find a flat alone in Hendon, for us and our pet rats. This was quite difficult since the rental apartment market is crazy in London! But in 4 days of viewings, I found a nice and cosy flat in a residential neighbourhood. Before coming in London, I studied English and Japanese languages in Strasbourg and did several students jobs in restaurants or as a babysitter. Last summer, I also travelled to Japan alone and it was my first trip outside of Europe. It was also the best trip I ever did. I met a lot of people and went to a lot of places both in cities and in the countryside of the country. This is at this moment that I decided to live in another country than France because I wanted to discover the world. So, since the United Kingdom is not too far away from France, my boyfriend and I decided to go to London in order to become bilingual and start a new life abroad. So far, I love working at EC London It is a place where I can meet a lot of people from different areas of the world and all the staff is amazing. I am here for 5 months and I look forward to … Read more

There is so much to do and see in London, sometimes it is easy to get lost. Time Out has designed an interactive and cultural TFL map that lets you click on each tube station to see what’s going on in the area. This interactive map of Transport for London’s network shows more than 500 Time Out-recommended museums, galleries, street art and more near each station. It is a great way to see London from a new perspective. Time Out did a great job of compiling interesting places close to tube stations and creating a interactive map. If you have time to spare before class this map is a great way to explore London. Below are examples of how the map works. Dinner Club After English Class In London

Not only does EC offer English lessons for adults in London, we also offer dinner club as part of our social program. Dinner club is a great way to meet other students, learn about other cultures, and try different food. Last week the cuisine was traditional British food, and next week we will be going to a barbecue restaurant. After a long day of English class, dinner club is also a way to relax and unwind. Every week we pick a new restaurant for students to try. London has so many great restaurants with different foods from around the world. Other than trying delicious foods dinner club is also a great way to learn about other students and their cultures. Last week we had students from Korea, Japan, Turkey, and Taiwan. The students shared experiences from their country and got to learn about each other’s countries. Getting involved in social activities is always a good way to meet new people and practice your English. Dinner club is not the only social event we offer.
