Studying in London? Here are 5 spots for dinner with a view!

I think we can all agree that London has some breathtaking views; particularly during the evenings when the city lights up. And what better way to take in these views than by enjoying a great dinner in the heart of the city and sampling the varied cuisines the capital has to offer. Here is a round up of my top 5 dinner locations in London with stunning views of the city!   1.) The Shard, 32 London Bridge Street One of the best known spots for dinner in London with panoramic views of the city. The Shard boasts a number of culinary delights under one roof. The location has some of the best views of the city as restaurants are located within London’s tallest building. There are restaurants here to suit everyone’s taste, from British classics to Chinese cuisines and more. The views of the city at sunset and night make any of the restaurants a great choice particularly for special occasions. PS. This would make a great suggestion for a celebration with friends after completing your course at EC London 30+!   2.) Big Easy, London Canary Wharf Another great location with views of London’s Canary Wharf. Big Easy serves up a BBQ inspired menu with plenty of seafood options too. There’s also a pretty cool bar! Diners here are treated to a stunning view of the river below as well as the impressive buildings in London’s financial district.   3.) Heron Tower, Duck & Waffle/Sushi Samba Situated close to London Liverpool Street is Heron Tower, in which you can find 2 different but equally great restaurants. Sushi Samba is popular as it brings together a range of world cuisines under one roof. The restaurant is located across the 38th and 39th floor, which gives an epic view of … Read more

EC London 30+ One Weeker student

Hi guys! Elora speaking from the EC London 30+ team. Last Friday I interviewed Marie, a one weeker +30 student from France. Let’s see what she has to say about her week in London. Hi Marie! So, let’s begin. Where are you from? I am from a small village under Paris, in the South. Why do you want to learn English? Well, I love the language and the British literature. I also wanted to learn in order to travel in English speaking countries with my family. Also, I own a campsite in France and I have a lot of clients speaking English. So, I thought it could be great to learn the language in order to speak better with them. Why London? Coming in London has always been a dream. It’s a beautiful city! And I was interested about the different customs that people have here so I chose to come around and feed my curiosity! And why EC London? Well, I have a friend called Marie Manguy, an English teacher in France, who told me that EC London was a great school. So, I just followed her advice… and here I am! What do you think about the school and the classes? The school is very good. All the teachers are nice and I enjoyed classes where we used authentic resources (for example: Youtube, Radio, Internet…) The level was perfect, not too simple or too hard. And I had an international group in my class, so I spoke with a lot of people coming from all around the world! Also, the school has a good situation. It’s in Central London and just 1-minute walking from Euston Station. It’s good when you want to visit the city after classes! Do you think your English is better after this week here? … Read more

An interview of Lisiê, a 30+ student

Hi, this is Elora from EC London 30+. Let me introduce one of our student and her story. Lisiê, a 30+ student, is from Brazil but before coming to London, she spent a few days in Portugal with her sister. She used to travel a lot, from the US to Europe for instance. “I love to travel! So, since I like the British culture and want to improve my English, I chose to go to London” she said. Unfortunately, she faced some issues when she arrived in the UK. “There was a misunderstanding and I was really nervous. I didn’t know what to do.” It’s true that being alone in a country you don’t know can be sometimes difficult. But no matter what the problem is, the school will help any students who is in trouble. Luckily, Alex managed to help her and the problem was solved in 2-3 days. “Alex was so nice to me, and super efficient. She was very patient and she reassured me. At the end, my problem was quickly resolved with the help of the staff.” Today, Lisiê’s problem is solved and she is relieved. “The school was perfect in helping me with my problem” she said. “Now I can enjoy my English classes without worrying about anything so again, thank you very much guys!” Lisiê has a pre-advanced level and she seems to be very happy with her classes. “The level is perfect, neither too simple nor too difficult”. When she was in Brazil, she had a pre-intermediate level and with private classes and the English workshop, she quickly improved her level. “I want to do my best here and I look forward to improve more and more my English” she concluded. And of course, we wish her all the best!

What is Sport and Exercise Psychology?

It’s almost impossible to watch a sporting event these days without someone mentioning confidence or motivation or mindset! Sport Psychology is becoming more accepted in mainstream sport, let’s find out why… Sport Psychology is the study of people’s behaviour, thoughts, emotions and experiences in a sport or exercise environment. It focuses on 2 distinct areas depending on the needs of the individual concerned: improving performance and improving well being. Generally we focus on one or the other with clients but there are occasions where the two crossover eg; managing one’s emotions can potentially lead to better decision making in competition or better reactions to mistakes = improvement in performance. This can also help to alleviate feelings of disappointment, frustration or anger at a performance which may cross over into life away from sport = improved well being. “Your your emotions affect your decision making…” How will Sport Psychology help me? Sport psychology is an individual process and every person’s needs differ. There is always development and improvement which can be made at any level of sport, whether amateur or professional. Sport psychology can help to see your sport and your performance from an objective and sometimes alternative perspective. It can challenge you to ask questions about things in your sport and performance that you take for granted. For example: How do you practice? Is it as close to competition as possible? Can you make it closer to competition? Have you tried practising challenging situations? If not, how will you react if you meet these situations in competition? “better decision making leads to improved performance“ What happens during a one-to-one Sport Psychology session? A one-to-one session could be in person or over Skype and can be in an office, at the practice ground or any venue of your choice. Typically, the … Read more

What is Comic Relief?

This week at EC Covent Garden school for Adult English courses we are organising an event for Comic Relief. We hope that our students will help us to raise money for this special charity, which is quite popular in the UK and everywhere in the city people work to help raise money for this organisation. The famous Live Aid concerts in 1985 saw rock ‘n’ roll royalty come together to raise awareness of, and money for, starving people in Ethiopia. Entertainers from the world of comedy were inspired by the success of these events and established Comic Relief to do a similar job using laughter instead of music. Over the following thirty years Comic Relief has become a biennial institution with millions of participants raising an impressive £1 billion for good causes in the UK and the developing world. Every penny of that £1bn. has gone to charities that help disadvantaged people as the administration costs of the organisation are all paid for by corporate sponsors. That alone would make Comic Relief a special charity, but what really makes it such an enduring success is its way of combining very serious issues with a light-hearted approach. People are encouraged to wear ridiculous clothes and perform ludicrous stunts in sponsored events that raise money for important causes. In this way the general public have come to see donating time and money as a positive, enjoyable thing rather than an onerous obligation. You can join in this celebration of silliness this Friday, the 13th of March. Put a few coins into our collection bucket, buy a raffle ticket or put on a red nose –the symbol of Comic Relief- and get your fellow students, who are taking Adult English courses at EC Covent Garden, to sponsor you to keep it on all … Read more
