Visit to the Tower of London

Sharing is caring!

This is probably one of London’s most famous and iconic landmarks and we had a good turnout for our visit on 1st October. Built by the side of the Thames and with Tower Bridge in the background, the setting is superb and the historical association is strengthened by glimpses of the remaining sections of the London Wall which was built in Roman Times.

The castle itself is everything you would expect from a fortified castle …with battlements, moat and defended towers, the oldest of which – the White Tower – was built in 1078. We saw the Beefeaters, the famous Ravens, visited the Crown Jewels and the Armouries. For most of us however, the best exhibition was ‘Henry VII – Dressed to Kill’, which showcased the costumes, armour and arms of this period.

A walk along the riverside to see the famous Traitors Gate completed a really interesting afternoon event.
