Saying Goodbye!

Almost three months ago, I started working as a Student Services Intern at EC London. At that time, I had absolutely no clue of how much this time will change myself. When I started working at EC, I was pretty much afraid of what is going to await me. As my hometown is very small, it was a big step for me to work in London and live there on my own. But thanks to my colleagues and friends at EC, it has probably been the best time I ever had in my life. Working at a language school like EC gives you the opportunity to work and get to know people from all over the world which is simply amazing. I have learnt a lot about foreign cultures and it was nice to hear different life stories from different people. Apart from the people I have met, living in a city like London never gets boring. There are so many things to do and see every day. Even though I have been to London quite a few times before, I saw so many new places. I got to know the city from a different view which made me love it even more. Last but not least, I would like to say a massive thank you to all my lovely colleagues at EC London. You have been amazing and made my time and working experience here a very special one. In these three months I have spent working at EC London, I laughed a lot and I also cried as it is now time to say goodbye. I will miss you a lot and you will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for everything! Lena 🙂

Karaoke Nights at EC London!

Hi, this is Federica. I have been working at Ec London for more than one month and now I can say I feel at home. At first it was shocking changing my life. I’m from a small town in Italy, where there is nothing to do. The only thing that you can do during the weekend is to go to another town by car and in order to enjoy your weekend there. In addition, I used to go out with the same friends all the time. The only place that opened up my eyes and mind to a new world was my University, where I could finally meet people coming from different countries and study many foreign languages. London is a new world to me: I can always meet new people from new countries, hang out with them and do plenty of interesting activities such as… the Karaoke Night! Once a week my colleague and I organize a Karaoke night in the school. We move to the 30+ reception, full of comfortable sofas, huge tables with a smart TV and a piano. We start with a piano performance. There’s always someone who likes playing the piano. After this relaxing performances, we turn the microphone on. Let’s start the party! Students choose their favourite songs and they can sing in different languages as well. Yesterday, for example, some French students sang “Allez les blue allez”, the Spanish one performed “Despacito” and so on. We also had a student who won the Voice Kids-France and we enjoyed his karaoke perfomances: he’s such a brilliant and young singer! Everytime we organize this kind of party, I’m always afraid people might get bored or be too shy to sing in public. But yesterday was different than I expected: students got along with each other … Read more

World Book Day 2019

On Thursday 7th March 2019, we celebrated the World Book Day at EC London ! That day is also known as ‘World Book and Copyright Day’, or ‘International Day of the Book’. It is an annual event organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, in order to promote reading, publishing, and copyright. It was a way to ask yourself how reading can improve your English learning process! I can speak about my own way of english learning and especially my love for that language, which started when I was thirteen or fourteen years old, through the poems that I was reading in books, and that I still read on social medias, at twenty-two years old. We invited all the student to come at the main reception to share with us their favorite quotes from books they read. Here are some of the quotes that the students wrote:   ‘And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it’ – The Alchemist   ‘ It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.’ – The Little Prince        If you would like to take part of similar events and activities, then you should come and join us at EC English School London  🙂 Cheers, Maryam

Halloween in London!

You can study English in London but it’s not all you can do! Here you have the chance to read how we celebrated the big event of Halloween. On the second of November, EC Halloween party took place in Bloomsbury Lanes! More than 200 students, teachers and staff were there from the beginning of the evening. The evening immediately became animated. The 8 attractive bowling lanes were active from the beginning! A lot of people played, try to better themselves and of course the opponents. At 19:00 we served the infamous pizza. That was very much appreciated by all. Everyone had the possibility to play unlimited games! Bowling, karaoke, table tennis, table soccer and billiards. Which party would be without a bar? Three waiters were ready to satisfy the costumer’s request behind the big bar! For obvious reasons, to let in just EC students and friends, there were two security guards at the entrance. People could leave their jackets and coats at reception because someone was looking after them. We advised students to wear some Halloween costumes or just wear some make up and they did a wonderful job! Everybody had different ideas: from the scariest one to the funniest! At the party were: vampires, bleeding nurses, policemen, clowns, living skeletons, ghosts, devils, but also Alice in wonderland, chickens, teletubbies, cowboys, tigers, cats, super heroes, unicorns and more! It was beautiful to see students so happy! The most intrepid even remained to celebrate and have fun until sunrise! EC London is active with a lot of charities. In fact, the ticket cost was to cover the cost of the party, a slice of pizza and the rest went to 3 different charity! To finish our adventure during this fantastic evening, here are a couple of shots that will remain in … Read more

Jeans for genes in EC London

EC offers various English Courses in London and that’s not all. Last Friday we did something amazing! As usual every year we help the charity jeans for genes. Raising money to make a difference for children affected by genetic disorders it’s important for us. On the 20th September we prepared a bake sale for the whole day that our students and staff appreciated a lot! We are grateful to have raised £116.62 for them. Since we promoted the event in the classes and on social media, on the day EC London was awash with jeans. Now we liked to share with all you some pictures of this special day!

EC London English Students get a presentation on Switzerland

In the last few weeks, EC students who are attending English Courses in London had the opportunity to join my Switzerland presentation. As it was so popular the first time around, staff and students requested it be presented again! During both presentations I talked about the different languages spoken in my country. It’s common for people who had never heard of it before to ask “Could you say something in Swiss?”, but since we have four national languages I explain that in Switzerland we speak German, French, Italian and Romanch. As well as having different languages in our little country we have also different food cultures. I showed them some pictures about: Polenta, Rösti, Raclette, Cheese fondue, Chocolate, Älplermagronen, Meringues, Basler Leckerli, Apfel Strudel, and other delicious food. Rivella and Fizzy are two drinks that you can only find by us. In my country we have cats, dogs and other usual pets, but among our woods, we have some animals that you can’t see everywhere. For example: eagles, deer and the Chamoi, bear as well as wolves Lynx, stoats or frogs, white hares and even marmots! If you want to visit Switzerland of course you have a lot of travel options. Renting a car and doing the “Ground Tour” is my top tip. You can drive for 1643 km in seven days, if driving around five hours per day. On your trip you’ll see 45 of the top destinations including 12 World Heritages Sites (UNESCO) and two biospheres! The recommended season do to this trip is in Summer, so from April to October. Amazing landscapes will be blow your mind. You’ll see 22 lakes and pass over five alpine passes that exceed 2000 meters above sea level. This route, if you prefer, is also possible to do on a panoramic train; it’s … Read more

Buenos Dias in EC London!

Buenos Dias guys! Yesterday at EC London school we had a culture day which was launched by 30+ and 30+ students from all over the world. They offered free Spanish lesson and I enjoyed a lot! During the lesson I learned how to say good morning in Spanish: Buenos dias. There were so many activities happened and all 16+ and 30+ students were invited! As goings-on the school proposed Lithuanian and Spanish lessons, Belly dance, Salsa and Ciranda for dancing a little bit. More splendid thing was, we also had food from different countries of our students to share with everyone. At last but not least there was also an exhibition of east Asian culture! I joined the Spanish lesson with two my colleagues. We learnt how to have a basic discussion, which is quite easy for me because I am an Italian tongue.  It’s nice that in our school there is a chance to learn other culture! EC London also offer courses of Teaching English as a second language. You are more than welcomed to visit our school, if you’d like to learn more!
