Meet Mauricio, our New Student Services Counselor!

I am an Angeleno through and through. Born in Mexico City, I grew up in Los Angeles most of my life speaking both Spanish and English. In high school, I took my first French lesson and fell in love with language learning. This interest encouraged me to study French and linguistics at UCLA and it opened the doors to European travels via studies in Bordeaux and Paris, France. The time I spent abroad left a life-changing impression on me and shaped my professional goals. Upon returning, I decided I wanted to support world citizens in their international education endeavors. I have worked helping international students come to the US to study English, American university students study abroad, and taught English to Japanese high school students in Kanazawa, Japan. When I’m not helping ECLA students at the front desk, you can find me strolling through farmer’s markets, cooking for friends and family, trying out the latest restaurants and watering-holes, riding LA’s improving transportation system, or simply playing a competitive game around town. If you are thinking of studying English in the US, come to EC Los Angeles. Our teachers are eager to work with you in our state-of-the-art classrooms! As a bonus, your classes are located walking distance to excellent food, shopping, and more importantly the beach! Los Angeles has so much to offer you, outdoor movie screenings, music and art venues, and once again, a mix of world-class food you cannot find anywhere else! === Among various English courses, EC Los Angeles offers private lessons in English!

8 Reasons to Study English in Los Angeles!

1. Diversity Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States and the largest city in the state of California. It is also arguably one of the most diverse cities in the world. We have people from over 140 countries and also have the largest Larin-American and Asian-American populations of any US city. This makes our city an excellent place not only to learn English, but also to meet people from many diverse backgrounds and immerse yourself in cultures from all around the world.   2. Weather Los Angeles is known for its excellent weather – the yearly temperature averages 9 – 24 degrees Celsius. The temperature rarely goes below 6 degrees, and rarely above 28 degrees. There is also not a lot of precipitation in Los Angeles, making it a very enjoyable city especially for those who like the outdoors. Perhaps this is one of the reasons the people of this city are well known for their cheerful dispositions!   3. Entertainment Capital of the World Most of the country’s major films, television, and music are produced based out of Los Angeles. People from all around the world come here in hopes of breaking into the Hollywood Entertainment industry. As a result of this, there are always a lot of fun activities related to the Entertainment Industry including Universal Studios, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, television show tapings, and opportunities to be extras in films and commercials! Not to mention, we also host the Academy Awards and Golden Globes each year!   4. Meet Kris, our new Residence Coordinator!

I am currently enrolled at SMC working on my general education classes and am planning to transfer to a UC and work on a bachelors in Business with a minor in Psychology. I have always had a drive to own my own business and have been amazed by how the mind works. I have not had the chance to travel very much but I recently flew to McKinney, Texas for Christmas of 2013, my brother drove me to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico in 2009, and I flew to Egypt for the first time in 2005 there was also a layover in Amsterdam. I am Egyptian and pride myself on the ability to speak Arabic in the Egyptian dialect fluently, unfortunately I am not able to read or write. As far as hobbies go, I absolutely love to drive, I find it effortless and relaxing. I don’t care what it is that I am driving whether it’s a car, boat, motorcycle, plane, etc. One of my absolute favorite quotes is “ONCE YOU GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY, YOUR ABILITIES ARE ENDLESS.” This quote really means a lot to me and it helps me stay motivated and work towards my personal and professional goal. Meet Tara, Our New Intern at EC Los Angeles!

Hi, I am Tara! I am 23 years old and from Korea so my mother tongue is Korean, but I can speak English and little bit of Japanese. Please feel free to talk with me in any of the languages I speak! I am studying convention management in Korea, so I learn lots of things related to tourism and international stuff. Not only academically, but also I really like to learn about other cultures and to travel around! I was in Sydney for 9 months and traveled to China, Japan, and Thailand. Finally I am here in the US now! But the best place to travel is Korea! I highly recommend that you visit. Just before coming to the US, I was president of the International students club at my university. For one and half years, I spent really great time and made unforgettable memories while experiencing lots of Korean cultural and touristic stuff with exchange students in Korea.  In the end, I felt it was time for me to go abroad for a while to explore other countries before I graduate. This experience also really influenced me to work for EC LA, too. And I came to the US last August. I really enjoyed my laid back life as a student in San Diego, one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever lived in. It was such an amazing city that I really want to show off all of my photos I took in SD. Now I am here in LA!, a more trendy and fast-paced city! I was really dazzled by the night view of the whole city at Griffith observatory and couldn’t believe that I was in the city where I dreamt about while watching Hollywood movies. I already love this city.  You might have already noticed … Read more
