Residents of Southern California are very lucky to enjoy one of the most thriving and active live music scenes in the world. Live music from every genre can be found at clubs, venues, and concert halls all over every week! Music junkies from all over the country (and even Internationally) travel to Southern California every month to be able to experience not only the biggest performers but also the next big underground hit. Here, especially in the summer, are many music festivals that cross different platforms to make a musical buffet that would satisfy anyone’s music pallet. Here are a few of Southern California’s own summer music festivals you have to check out if you get the chance. FYF FYF (don’t ask what it means), is one of the larger summer outdoor music festivals in Los Angeles which takes places yearly in the LA Sports Arena & Exposition Park. They mostly feature alternative and indie bands with a few DJ’s on the side, anything you might hear on your local alternative radio station or playing in the background of a vintage shopping outlet. In 2014, they will feature the likes of The Strokes, Phoenix, and Jamie XX (of the band XX). The festival boasts over 60 acts for the two day festival. Tickets are not cheap and sell out quick so you’ll have to act fast or you’ll be missing out on the FY part of FYF. HARD Summer HARD is more for the fast paced party person who enjoys loud bass music, hours of ‘putting-your-hands-up’, and occasionally some recreational sunglasses.
