San Diego – One of the Most Beautiful Cities to Visit!

Sharing is caring!

One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is that there are so many beautiful cities nearby — San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Las Vegas… and all just a train ride away! Here, Student Ambassador Jacqi (Germany) shares her San Diego experience with us!

“In the United States there is an incredibly high number of places that you have to go. Aside from the famous places like Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Las Vegas and San Francisco there is San Diego. San Diego is a wonderful place where you can easily spend your whole weekend. In general, the atmosphere in San Diego is more relaxed than in Los Angeles. If you are interested in going to San Diego I would strongly recommend that you use the Amtrak train. The Amtrak goes directly from the Union Station in Los Angeles to Santa Fe in San Diego. One-way costs $37 and while you are on your way there, you will have a beautiful view of the ocean and the beach.

Must Do’s

Sightseeing – Nature

First of all, I want to advise you to go to the Goldfishpoint at La Jolla. In La Jolla you can see many sea-lions who lay down at the beach and enjoy the sun. Taking a picture with them is really easy because you can go pretty close towards them. However, you should be aware of the fact that they are still wild animals that can get aggressive if they feel disturbed in their natural environment.

If you prefer another calmer place to relax, I recommend that you go to Balboa Park. Balboa Park is the biggest public park in San Diego where there are many green areas and a lot of museums. If you like relaxing at the beach more, you can go to Coronada Beach or to Pacific Beach. Some people love being in nature so maybe the Potato Chip Rock, the Adobe Falls or the San Diego Safari might also be interesting. Another recommendation is the Sunset Cliffs. This is a famous place where many people spend their evening and enjoy seeing the sunset.

Sightseeing – The City

Additionally, you must see the harbor with the well-known ‘Embracing Peace’ statue and the military boat. Next to the harbor there is a pretty small village called Seaport Village. Seaport Village is attractive for tourists. Although it is touristic you have to see the small stores and have to experience the charm of this small village.

People who like to go shopping should definitively go to the outlet stores next to the Mexican border. There you can find many popular brands and you can get a big discount. Another place where you should go is Old Town. Old Town is a western-style part of San Diego where you can buy cigars, souvenirs, soap, perfumes or candy. In general, it’s an interesting place to go but it is also very touristic.

Food and Beverage

Little Italy or the Gaslampquarter are two great areas that you can go to when you are searching for tasty food or want to have some drinks. Both areas are popular and there are many restaurants and bars. Moreover, I can recommend the restaurant ‘Extraordinary Desserts’. It is a café, specializing in cakes, cupcakes and cookies (mostly sweets). If you are interested in having some drinks in the evening the rooftop bars ‘Altitude Sky Lounge’ and ‘The Nolen’ would be an excellent choice. ‘The Nolen’ has good drinks, you will find a fire in the middle of your table and you will have a view of the city which is impressive.

In conclusion, you can say that San Diego is an adorable place! The whole atmosphere is more relaxed than in Los Angeles and there are many different areas that you should visit.”
