Cool walk to Holocaust Memorial with EC Miami Students

As usual in our English Classes in Miami at EC, we think it is a pretty good idea to take students out for a walk from time to time. Just for the sake of breaking the routine of the classroom. It sounds like fun, now doesn’t it? Actually, the umbrella topic of the unit to be covered for the week with the Pre-Intermediate class was History- booooring- you guys might think. Let me tell you, though, that it wasn’t like that at all. That is why we thought of supplementing the unit to be covered with a pop-up activity, like the one visiting the Holocaust Memorial in the very heart of always-vibrant Miami Beach. By the way, The Holocaust Memorial, which is located on 1933-1945 Meridian Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139, makes the difference taking into account the usual atmosphere and view that characterize Miami Beach.   You wouldn’t expect to come across a sight like this when walking around South Beach. Making your way through on Meridian Avenue (the one that practically splits South Beach into two) and all of a sudden getting to see the huge forearm sculpture extending up to the sky is just thrilling and in the mean time unexpected. Even after having spent two, three, or even four weeks in South Beach the students in Pre-Intermediate hadn’t had the chance to go anywhere near there. We had spent the first period of the lesson in the classroom, you know? Just sitting there doing our thing (teaching/learning) if you know what I mean, LOL, but everything changed as we set foot on the street to make our way to the Holocaust Memorial. Our walk was enjoyable and also convenient for a Monday morning. Once we got there, we had the opportunity to read about this episode … Read more

Visit to the Everglades with EC Miami Students!

If you are ever coming to South Florida, definitely you can’t miss an entertaining visit to the Everglades, is that right or what? Our students at EC English School Miami are pretty aware of having that cool chance to go down there from sunny lively South Beach. Having a car trip down to the Everglades is a must, let me tell you that. Nothing compares to going and seeing our Florida-famous alligators. Upon arrival, our constantly-curious students take a wind-hitting ride on the Air boat so that the views might be better enjoyed. Don’t even be that surprised if all of a sudden an alligator swims over to the Air boat. Those “green lovely-scary boys” might show up with a loud noise right in the middle of the calm atmosphere that the Everglades always have to offer. Listen up! No need to be scared, though. “It’s a combination of scary and exciting”, Says Natalia, one of our students coming from colorful Colombia! Right after the thrilling Air boat ride, our students take advantage, obviously, to take amazing pics with “baby alligators” (isn’t that sweet?). And even a few minutes later, they are ready to enjoy that show in which one of the Everglades guys sticks his head where it doesn’t belong, (LOL) the mouth of an alligator, no less! “It’s awesome!”, says Yoshiki from Japan.       If you look in the photos above – you’ll see our charming students in the Intermediate class coming from all over the world, including Colombia, Japan, and Switzerland. In this way, you will get an idea of plenty of plans to do when coming to Miami. On trips like these, students have an opportunity to get a good memory and even a story to tell their close ones. Breakfast and English

Hi Everyone, Can you eat, learn and have fun at the same time ? Yes…only in one English School in Miami ,our school. Last Thursday, our students from the Pre-Intermediate level had breakfast with their teacher Rafael Perdigon at Einstein Bros on Alton Rd.It was a great opportunity to welcome Flaminia ,a new student from Italy. We also celebrate a very special week with our students from Saudi Arabia. Our charming Saudi students were very excited to share this time with their classmates from Italy,France and Turkey. Ammar,Ali,Faris and Abdullah explained to us how the Kingdom was founded. They also gave plenty of details on how the Anniversary of KSA ( Kingdom of Saudi Arabia)  is celebrated all across the country. There are really so many reasons to admire such an amazing nation and civilization. While we were having our delicious bagels, coffees and juices (some of the students were more conscious about their diets than the teacher) the students were given some activities to complete in their coursebooks.Reading comprehension, pair work and multiple choice questions were part of our menu too. They learned new vocabulary, new idioms and expressions. They used all this content to describe important landmarks, historical buildings, sites, and tirelessly spoke about their hometowns. It was very interesting how a couple of locals approached our class and asked some questions about our English courses ,but even more interesting than that, was the excitement of the students when they gave details about our school. It is so rewarding for a teacher to see the students interacting in English when just a couple of months ago their English was so limited. So,if you are around Lincoln and Alton, in our sunny city of Miami Beach, and you feel like learning English,or just feel like enjoying a place where multiple nationalities and cultures interact ,drop by 1111 Lincoln Rd Suite 301.We’ll be eagerly waiting for … Read more

Activities At EC English Center in Miami

A Field Trip To The Apple Store

What makes students like EC Miami the most is our interesting activities. We offer students a lot of activities which give them experiences not only inside the school but also outside. A Field Trip to Apple store is one of the regular activities at EC Miami. Apple Store is located at 1021 Lincoln Road. It’s just a few steps away from EC English Center in Miami. Therefore, this is a chance for our students to visit the Apple Store easily. The students will be welcomed warmly by Apple staff. There will be one specialist who gives students a tour around the store and introduces new Apple products, new applications. Besides, students will create amazing work right on the spot. They will have some fun and creative projects to do such as taking group pictures, making film trailers, editing videos… This is the time for students to work, have fun and practice English together.  Moreover, students will get some free gifts from Apple like T- Shirts or pen drives after the tour. We believe the Field Trip Program is an activity which students don’t want to miss.

Cultural Education in ESL Courses in Miami

When choosing ESL courses in Miami, it’s not only about school. Students want to have new experiences and learn more about their host city’s culture and history. One great way to do that is to choose a Miami Homestay. Your host family will likely be long-time residents who know lots about Miami. That is an excellent way to become part of both a family and the city you are studying in. However, some students prefer the privacy and autonomy of our other student accommodation, so luckily that’s not the only choice. EC English Center in Miami offers a unique class specially developed to teach students about the wonderful things Miami has to offer; it’s called English in the City. English in the City is a special focus class in which each week focuses on a particular element of Miami culture. For example, one week might be about sports. During this week we may learn about the local professional sports teams, famous athletes who come from Miami and what options we have as students in terms of places to work out or play sports. Sometimes we even get out of the classroom to visit a gym and ask questions about membership. This means our students can practice their English in the real world and learn about Miami. Other topics included food in Miami, the history of Miami, foreign influences seen in Miami, and the nature and wildlife of Florida just to name a few. Contact us today to find out how EC Miami can offer you the trip of a lifetime. [hs_action id=”2793″]
