Mixer at Lost Weekend.

Our principle when you study English in the USA  is constantly pretty much the same: allowing students to socialize and interact out of school. Having the chance to interact with a staff member in a different kind of context is really convenient in order to practice your speaking skills of the target language. Bearing this concept in mind and that South Beach is full of amazing establishments to have fun and enjoy amazing food and drinks, this time we wanted to take our awesome students at EC Miami to a very cool spot on 218 Española Way. Along with lead teacher Gammal, students were able to have a great time together at Lost Weekend. It is possible to find different kinds of entertainment at this location. For example, billiard pool tables, an air hockey table, Foosball, and TV sports. As a matter of fact, many locals consider it as a place that isn’t a “tourist trap” or a business that will make you break your bank for a round of drinks, if you know what we are saying.     The great local atmosphere hit us all the second we stepped in, and our guys just loved it! It turned out that the soccer match for the playoff round of the Champions League between Liverpool and Atletico de Madrid was on one of the huge TV’s. As many of the students who joined us are huge soccer fans coming from Switzerland, they couldn’t have had a better time. While having a yummy basket of fries along with refreshing ice-cold beers, they saw that Liverpool ended up losing the match to an Atletico that bounced back to score three surprising goals in a row. Anyway, this was no reason to kill the mood, and they kept having fun by playing an … Read more

Monster Jam in Miami 2020.

The Monster Jam takes place in the USA every year. It’s a worldwide entertainment event that has been going on since 1992. In each country it’s possible to watch this fantastic American cars show on TV. However, on this occasion instead of going to a baseball game at the gorgeous Marlins Park of Miami, fans made a little exception in order to attend to the roaring Monster Jam hosted in our always sunny city . Actually, three of our students coming from Switzerland Ronny, Matthias and Michele did, and they had tons of fun as long life fans last February 22nd and 23rd . Around our English school in Miami they constantly point out that in Switzerland the Monster Jam is a big deal. They couldn’t wait to go to this one and make a dream come true. Cool way to spend your free time when you are not in class, huh guys? For them, this was an awesome opportunity to be in touch with the culture of American entertainment.     The Stadium was packed with most of the public who were children wearing a t-shirt or a hat of their favorite cars, and they could all feel the typical atmosphere of the American culture. Well then, so this time enjoying watching all those heavy pound trucks driven by high performance pilots can not be passed up. Countless feats of dirt hitting and grinding are the delight of the show. Also, the booming roar gets you those thrilling goosebumps. Actually, the Monster Jam features three events: Racing Competitions, Skills Challenge, and Freestyle. At 7:30 pm the show began. All the cars came into a field full of obstacles and hills for the jumps. There was a quick presentation of the cars and it was time for the first competition, … Read more

Miami Heat in the NBA All Star Weekend.

So far, this season has been incredible for the Miami Heat, which is a team that you can see if you come to the USA to learn English in Miami. Actually, ever since Lebron James left South Beach to go back to Cleveland and join the Cavaliers in 2015, the Miami Heat have not been able to out-stand. These days, though, the basketball team of Miami is making the difference as we are in the fourth position of the eastern conference. Thus, the team has a huge chance to make it to the playoffs! Also, three of our players participated in the NBA All Star Weekend hosted in Chicago from February 14th to 16th,  and they simply shined! They were: Bam Adebayo-number 13 making part of the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, Derrick Jones Junior-number 5 making part of the Slam Dunk Contest, and Jimmy Butler-number 22 making part of Team Giannis in the All Star game.   However, this time we want to make a special mention of Bam Adebayo. Wearing his Miami Heat jersey with the number 13, Bam participated in the Skills Challenge event last Saturday night. This competition is about testing ball handling while swerving through 5 posts up to the end of the court. It also includes making a really precise “pass” into a hole. As a final step, it tests three-point shooting ability. So, a player has to pull all of these off before his competitor, who is doing the same thing on the other side of the court in the mean time, to win a round. In the first round of the competition he beat Spencer Dinwiddie from the New Jersey Nets. Then in the semifinal round, he beat Paskal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors. In the final round, he beat Domantas Sabonis form … Read more

Super Bowl LIV Events Hosted in our Building!!!

One of the most popular sports in the USA is American Football. It might be number one, actually. What do you guys think? This year in Miami we have the pleasure to host the amazing Super Bowl LIV (54), which is in reality the final game of the NFL (National Football League). The champion will be decided between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Although the “big game” is taking place in the Sunlight Stadium, we gotta let you know that the super cool vibes around South Beach are off the charts. One  of the very simple reasons why this is happening is that the awesome management in our iconic building 1111 Lincoln Road is hosting a series of Super Bowl events from January 29th to February 1st. . They are doing a really great job in anticipation to the “big game”. This kind of events  includes meetings and greetings with NFL players, such as James White, Cameron Jordan, Josh Allen, Derrick Henry, and Larry Fitzgerald. Also, there are going to be live media broadcastings, fan games, tasty food, and refreshing drinks. The best part is that all of this is free of charge for our students and members of the staff! How cool is that, huh?   Last Wednesday, though, it was the opening of this series of events, and we were all really curious about meeting the NFL player of the day, James White-a running back player for the New England Patriots (the one right in the middle of the picture below). Our students at English school in Miami were in line with a lot of excitement and expectation. To be honest, we all had waited for a little kind of a while until all of a sudden we got access to the seventh floor. … Read more

Let’s go HEAT!!!

Of all the popular sports in the US, basketball has a special meaning in Miami. It’s because the Miami HEAT have been champions of the NBA three times so far – 2006, 2012, and 2013. That’s why we cannot forget about our beloved player Dwyane Wade. With the number 3 on his jersey he made outstanding contributions to win these valued championships. What a thrill it is to go to the American Airlines Arena. For all these reasons, Oleg Diukel, who is in the Intermediate level and coming from Russia, was really excited to go to one of the regular season games. This time against the San Antonio Spurs, and he was willing to surprise us with his awesome testimonial:    I can’t believe it was my first time in a basketball game in the US. It took place on January fifteenth of 2020. And you know what? This event was even better than I expected. There are many reasons why I had a wonderful time. For starters, the game was a thrill. There were many occasions in which the HEAT was down on the score, but at the end during the fourth quarter they pulled the win!! Secondly, the spectators were cheerful all the time, and their vibes were super contagious. Also, the athletes’ plays were just spectacular- there were dunks and three point shots. Even the fast food was a yummy bite. Finally, I have to say that I was impressed by the short performances before and during the game. That performance was like a real show with great music and well performed support team. There were even some funny competitions during the half time. And the funny thing is that I was watching these competitions with the same curiosity that I was watching the game. So anyways, … Read more

Soccer with EC students!!

It’s no secret that football soccer is considered the most popular sport around the world. About more than two hundred million people worldwide play it. Amazing numbers, right? Either while watching it or playing it, fun is going to be there. It raises passion everywhere across continents. Being aware that the aim of the game is to drive the ball all the way up to the opposite team’s goal makes all kinds of players pretty excited, now doesn’t it? Of course, our students at EC English School Miami would not be the exception this time. They are big fans who really enjoy playing this awesome game that might be played either outdoors or indoors on a rectangular field of grass or turf. The only difference, though,  is that in indoor soccer the court is smaller, and even more convenient for our students since, trust me, the heat in Miami (not the Miami Heat basketball team, LOL) is going to make players tired in the blink of an eye.         This is precisely why just this once we picked a convenient and different property -Urban Soccer Five- a brand new place located on 1125 NW 71st St Miami, FL 33150. It is this kind of place that players rent to make sure they don’t have to deal the rain, just in case. On this occasion, our always cool teacher Joseph (the one with the green puma shirt) came up with the idea of getting soccer pick up games with our students at this spot. Many people showed up, actually fifteen, which was a really suitable number to make up a little tournament. Our students from Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Colombia, Belgium, and Japan got in to two teams with five players each. They all had the chance to play over … Read more

Basketball Club with EC Miami

It is no secret that the three big sports in the United States are football, basketball, and baseball. Of course, there are many others that are really popular in this country. But this time let me just talk to you about basketball, which is one of our cool activities at EC Miami. As an american sport, you can learn a lot of English by playing basketball, by the way. Especially if you guys join us for pickup games at the park. The park we all go to very often is Flamingo, located at 1200 Meridian Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. The basketball ambiance around the courts at Flamingo Park is really awesome. While walking up to them, you can hear those hip hop tunes the players put on the speakers which also match this sport in a very American-urban fashion. Players going at it-sometimes even with jerseys off- is motivating to get on the court ready for hoop action. You play the pickup game and you lose on a game up to eleven points, and you are out. Once you are out, all you can do is watch the others play, and this is not fun. That’s why you gotta win, no matter what. LOL. What I have to tell you, though, is that with EC English School Miami students it is a different thing. We try our best to get a half court for ourselves. Local players at the park come to see what is going on while we are playing, and they notice that we are just having fun without resorting to that crazy intensity to win. Do you know what I mean? LOL. Also, sometimes locals want to join us and we pick up teams so that everyone gets the chance to play. At the end of the … Read more
