Mixer at Lost Weekend.

Our principle when you study English in the USA  is constantly pretty much the same: allowing students to socialize and interact out of school. Having the chance to interact with a staff member in a different kind of context is really convenient in order to practice your speaking skills of the target language. Bearing this concept in mind and that South Beach is full of amazing establishments to have fun and enjoy amazing food and drinks, this time we wanted to take our awesome students at EC Miami to a very cool spot on 218 Española Way. Along with lead teacher Gammal, students were able to have a great time together at Lost Weekend. It is possible to find different kinds of entertainment at this location. For example, billiard pool tables, an air hockey table, Foosball, and TV sports. As a matter of fact, many locals consider it as a place that isn’t a “tourist trap” or a business that will make you break your bank for a round of drinks, if you know what we are saying.     The great local atmosphere hit us all the second we stepped in, and our guys just loved it! It turned out that the soccer match for the playoff round of the Champions League between Liverpool and Atletico de Madrid was on one of the huge TV’s. As many of the students who joined us are huge soccer fans coming from Switzerland, they couldn’t have had a better time. While having a yummy basket of fries along with refreshing ice-cold beers, they saw that Liverpool ended up losing the match to an Atletico that bounced back to score three surprising goals in a row. Anyway, this was no reason to kill the mood, and they kept having fun by playing an … Read more

Miami Heat in the NBA All Star Weekend.

So far, this season has been incredible for the Miami Heat, which is a team that you can see if you come to the USA to learn English in Miami. Actually, ever since Lebron James left South Beach to go back to Cleveland and join the Cavaliers in 2015, the Miami Heat have not been able to out-stand. These days, though, the basketball team of Miami is making the difference as we are in the fourth position of the eastern conference. Thus, the team has a huge chance to make it to the playoffs! Also, three of our players participated in the NBA All Star Weekend hosted in Chicago from February 14th to 16th,  and they simply shined! They were: Bam Adebayo-number 13 making part of the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, Derrick Jones Junior-number 5 making part of the Slam Dunk Contest, and Jimmy Butler-number 22 making part of Team Giannis in the All Star game.   However, this time we want to make a special mention of Bam Adebayo. Wearing his Miami Heat jersey with the number 13, Bam participated in the Skills Challenge event last Saturday night. This competition is about testing ball handling while swerving through 5 posts up to the end of the court. It also includes making a really precise “pass” into a hole. As a final step, it tests three-point shooting ability. So, a player has to pull all of these off before his competitor, who is doing the same thing on the other side of the court in the mean time, to win a round. In the first round of the competition he beat Spencer Dinwiddie from the New Jersey Nets. Then in the semifinal round, he beat Paskal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors. In the final round, he beat Domantas Sabonis form … Read more

Bad Boys For Life in Miami!

The city of Miami has been constantly remembered for the franchise movie Bad Boys, and this is no secret to anybody, now is it? It must be that Miami has the excitement and the pizzazz that the series needs. In this regard, Will Smith points out that “the movie is all about friendship. It’s about having somebody through the good times and through the bad times, no matter what happens. Friends fly together, friends die together”. Anyways, it’s just another decade and another Bad Boys film is out. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back on Miami Beach after filming scenes here in April at the Broadmoor Hotel and the Mac Arthur causeway. The production of the movie could not have picked a more appropriate hotel inasmuch as the Broadmoor hotel is located on 7450 Ocean Terrace.  It is just across the street from a beach along the Atlantic ocean, and  it is the perfect example of what Art Deco represents.   As a matter of fact, the city of Miami concentrates the biggest collection of Art Deco architecture. It displays 900 historic buildings usually characterized by bright colors from pastel blues and pinks, to bright oranges, vibrant yellows, greens and more. On the other hand, the Mac Arthur causeway, which is one direct land route between mainland Miami and the barrier islands of Miami Beach, is possible to be spotted on many of the action-packed scenes from this awesome film. By the way, one of our students in Intermediate from Saudi Arabia, Nawaf, watched Bad Boys For Life, and he was obviously thrilled. As he came from his country to live and learn English in Miami and South Beach, he saw these two and even more quintessential elements of the city of Miami in the movie. He was positively … Read more

Super Bowl LIV Events Hosted in our Building!!!

One of the most popular sports in the USA is American Football. It might be number one, actually. What do you guys think? This year in Miami we have the pleasure to host the amazing Super Bowl LIV (54), which is in reality the final game of the NFL (National Football League). The champion will be decided between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Although the “big game” is taking place in the Sunlight Stadium, we gotta let you know that the super cool vibes around South Beach are off the charts. One  of the very simple reasons why this is happening is that the awesome management in our iconic building 1111 Lincoln Road is hosting a series of Super Bowl events from January 29th to February 1st. . They are doing a really great job in anticipation to the “big game”. This kind of events  includes meetings and greetings with NFL players, such as James White, Cameron Jordan, Josh Allen, Derrick Henry, and Larry Fitzgerald. Also, there are going to be live media broadcastings, fan games, tasty food, and refreshing drinks. The best part is that all of this is free of charge for our students and members of the staff! How cool is that, huh?   Last Wednesday, though, it was the opening of this series of events, and we were all really curious about meeting the NFL player of the day, James White-a running back player for the New England Patriots (the one right in the middle of the picture below). Our students at English school in Miami were in line with a lot of excitement and expectation. To be honest, we all had waited for a little kind of a while until all of a sudden we got access to the seventh floor. … Read more

Monday Welcome Activity at EC Miami

It is the first full week of the year 2020, and it looks like many people have made their resolution to Learn English in Miami. What a better way to do it than come all the way to lively South Beach, right? As a first step, students are welcomed early on Monday morning and invited to step on our orange carpet towards the front desk. That is where they receive an orange folder with easy forms to fill out. In the mean time, they enjoy a delicious snack with fresh and hot coffee to keep going. After that, arrivals receive a couple of orientations – one on accommodation, and the other on academic information about our center. Also, they take a placement test at the computer lab to know what level they are going to learn from. Then it comes the best part!! Our new students take a tour that actually starts by going up to the rooftop of the 1111 Lincoln Road iconic building. It is all led by our cool student ambassadors: Bader, Osama, and Mohamad, from Saudi Arabia. The three of them taking care of our thirty new students this week. It is just awesome to observe most of the Miami Beach area from there, just as you guys can see in the great picture below.     Later on, the fresh tour goes on in the area of EC Miami. With its always radiant combination of bars, restaurants, and stores our students enjoy the walk up to a really nice spot. The atmosphere was amazing and lively. They have a big … Read more

Welcome 2020!!!

So, here we go again. New Year’s eve in South Beach. The vibes are definitely different around here. That is why all teachers agreed to devote five minutes in class to have students talk about New Year’s resolutions. Statements like these came out: “I want to improve my English”, “I want to exercise more often”, “I want to get new job”, and stuff like that. Right after that, we had the idea of taking advantage of our famous building on lovely Lincoln road. The 1111 Lincoln Road building has been an icon of South Beach and its majestic views. We all managed to get some time to get up to the rooftop of the building. At EC Miami on the last day of this year Sandy, one of our adorable teachers, took the initiative to get an amazing photo with teachers, staff and students from Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Sandy even brought in a couple of banners in red that added up to the message we wanted to send everybody. So you guys can get the picture of what went down during day time.       On the other hand, something cool to do at night is to go and enjoy the traditional super awesome fireworks show on Ocean Drive. It is thrilling to see visitors from across the globe coming all the way to Miami Beach to spend the holiday season. People do all kinds of stuff. Right on Ocean Drive between 5th and 14th streets, you get to see travelers walking up and down while the action is taking place. Everybody walking around with a look of great expectation in their eyes, having a drink, and willing to share a few words to wish a Happy New Year regardless where you all guys … Read more

Christmas in South Beach

Well, here we go again. It is the most special time of the year. Christmas time!!! Now, isn’t it? At EC Miami the USA School of English we are aware of what the deal is when it comes to Christmas. For our cool students being far from home is not a problem. Not at all if they ever want to come up with some fun plan to do with a friend or partner in Miami South Beach. This year, during the entire Christmas eve students and staff members of EC Miami kept in touch on our super awesome whatssap group in different ways. One of them was by sharing positive vibe Christmas messages wishing the best from one to another. Another way, was by uploading pics and videos we took along the way as Christmas Eve day went by. There was something truly unusual that we ran into on the group conversation thread, though. It was a wonderful pic with our students from Switzerland, Robin and Lars, on the beach. Here is how they have their say on their experience: “What’s better than a Christmas candlelight dinner at the beach with your best friend? All you need is a table with a nice tablecloth, a beautiful Christmas tree, a candle for a pleasant atmosphere and a delicious meal. (Unfortunately we only had enough money for one potato. Miami Beach is quite expensive…). Combined with a wonderful view of the ocean, the evening can only be great! Granted: The whole thing was a bit strange, but for the picture and the smiling faces it was definitely worth it!” Greetings, Robin and Lars. We just love the contrast between the pine Christmas tree, the sand, and the ocean. Anyways, as you can see, this is a perfect example of how our students … Read more

Miami, a great choice to come and learn English.

As an example of the meaningful and enjoyable writing exercises to Learn English in Miami, in the free class that we offer at EC Miami students were asking about the right structure of a paragraph. They learned that a reasonable paragraph should include three essential elements: a topic sentence, supporting points that can be supplemented  by one or two more sentences, and a conclusion. With all of this in mind, we decided to write about why Miami Beach is a great choice to come to the United States and learn English. Here is the written work by one of our students, Danil, who is in the Pre-Intermediate class. He actually finished up a very interesting paragraph that we want to share with you all this time: Miami Beach is a great choice to come and learn English for many reasons. First of all, the weather is very comfortable. I mean, it is convenient for me because it helps me relax and recharge myself after class. It doesn’t snow here. The temperature doesn’t go down like in other states and cities of the US. Secondly, everything is really close. You don’t really need to rent a car or a motorcycle to get somewhere. With a scooter, a bicycle, or even a nice walk you can get to supermarkets, restaurants, bars and stores very easily. Thirdly, people are amazing. They are really friendly around here. You can also make friends any time, and if something ever happens to you, you will get help from them as soon as possible. Finally, Miami Beach is located across the bridge from Miami, one of the big cities in the US where shopping is very convenient. When you need to buy something, you just find the nearest mall. There are many of them near here. You … Read more

Pumpkin Carving at EC Miami

Here we are aware that our traditional Halloween celebration wouldn’t be complete without fun pumpkin carvings. It has been a traditional competition activity at  EC English School Miami ever since the center was opened back in 2012. As a matter of fact, it’s a yearly Halloween tradition that came to the United States from Irish immigrants. At our center we take care of providing enough pumpkins. We also arrange everything around our neat students lounge. Let me tell you, though, that pumpkin carving needs some special tools kits. Sometimes a simple knife would do the trick as well. That is precisely why usually on October 30th every year we host a competition with the most creative carved pumpkin. The students who want to participate split into teams, they watch a short but interesting tutorial pumpkin carving video, they work together, they do their thing, and they have their fun. In an easy and entertaining way, our students can learn that the top of the pumpkin is cut off to form a lid, the inside flesh is scooped out, and an image usually a scary or funny face – is carved out of the rind to expose the hollow interior. To create the lantern effect, a light source, traditionally a flame such as a candle or tea light, is placed within before the lid is closed. However, these lanterns can be used with electric lights that are also marketed. It is common to see pumpkin lanterns on doorsteps and otherwise used as decorations prior to and on Halloween. This year contestants got the picture really well, as they were able to work on their corresponding pumpkins while listening to cool music. The results were awesome, and you can tell they did their best. Just take a look at the five carved … Read more

English at the Beach.

“Every morning we start heading to school from the students’ residence around 8 am. It’s a really nice view along Collins and Washington Avenues to then make a left turn onto Lincoln Road – the most popular pedestrian street in Miami Beach- all the way down to the iconic 1111 Lincoln Road building, where EC Miami is located. After making it there, we have three amazing hours to Learn English in Miami with fabulous teachers. Classes are full of English speaking interaction, communication, and even funny and engaging games.  Plus, let’s not forget about our very nice partners coming from countries around the world. It’s a really exceptional thing. However, what we really love is the fact that we have the chance to go to the beach every afternoon after class. We can meet lots of new interesting friends to improve our English with.  The point is to share our Miami Beach experience. The weather is so warm in comparison to the weather we have in our countries. It’s like a  piece of paradise if we don’t forget the palm trees. Our hours are really better than in many nations around the world, where it is necessary to wait for about 9 months until the summer . Let us not forget either about the smooth and relaxing crash of the waves to the sand at the beach. The sound by the seagulls add up to the beach ambiance as well. After sunbathing and having friendly conversations with new friends, we can go swimming in the extremely clean ocean. We don’t really want to go back home, honestly”, says Emma, coming from Switzerland. Looking at this photo– you’ll see the charm that the beach in Miami  has to offer. In this way, you will get an idea of the whole bunch of … Read more
