Day Trip to Ottawa!

EC Montreal is taking its students on a day trip to Ottawa this Saturday! Ottawa is the capital of Canada and one of its nicest cities. Around twenty students are looking forward to this one day excursion. Taking part in this activity is the best way to meet new students, have fun with your friends, practice English or French and, of course, visit our fabulous country! It is also a cheap and easy way for students to travel. You can see a lot of interesting spots in just one day in Ottawa. Students are going to visit the Parliament, and then they will enjoy a walking tour of the city. They will have many opportunities to take beautiful pictures of exceptional city scenes. We are proud to show our country to our students. And don’t worry if you cannot go this weekend! EC Montreal organizes this trip every month!

Airport Reception Greeters!

EC Montreal held its annual Airport Reception Greeter workshop this evening.  Our team of drivers came to the school to participate in a training session on how to handle this very important service we offer our students and to share best practices.  It was great listening to our team share experiences and tips on how to handle tricky situations. EC Montreal has very high standards when it comes to this service.  It is the very first encounter our students have with our EC staff.  First impressions are lasting impressions and we do our best to ensure our students have a warm and friendly greeting and arrive to their accommodation safely.  We also ask our drivers to be our eyes once they arrive to the accommodation provider.  It is important for them to let us know what kind of greeting our student received and if the accommodation meets EC standards. We look forward to a wonderful summer at EC Montreal and wish our drivers a smooth ride!

July Social Events: Summer Festival Fun!

EC Montreal’s July social events calendar is ready and we can’t wait to share it with our students.  The calendar of events will mirror all the wonderful festivals taking place in Montreal! On July 3, we will transform our student lounge into a Jazz Bar.  The activity is called Sounds of Jazz Cocktail Lounge!  We will listen to the sweet sounds of jazz while enjoying delicious martini cocktails!! On July 10, our taste of Montreal activity will include a poutine picnic!!  We will introduce our students to a Montreal classic dish- POUTINE!  Poutine is the ultimate comfort food made with cheese, gravy and fries! On July 17, to celebrate the Festival Nuit d’Afrique, we will be offering our students some African dance lessons.  We cannot wait to share this culture with our students.  We will also be giving them information on the great African shows taking place around the city. On July 24, to celebrate the best season in Montreal, EC Montreal will be hosting a beach party in the student lounge!  We will be serving hotdogs and tropical cocktails while listening to some great island music! We will end the month on July 31 with Caribbean dance lessons!  A real fiesta awaits with salsa dancing and margaritas!! We love giving our students the opportunity to mingle over great social activities!  It gives us great joy watching our students bond with each other and having a marvelous time!!

Canada Day Festivities in Montreal!

July 1 is Canada Day – which represents Canada’s Birthday!  The entire country celebrates this special day and Montreal is no exception!  At EC Montreal, we will be having our own festivities as part of our weekly free activities.   We will have Canada’s birthday party with bbq hotdogs, chips and beer!  – Perfect picnic food! The city of Montreal has created quite the schedule of activities and events this holiday!  All activities will take place in Old Montreal, especially at the Old Port and around the Clock Tower. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. 25 families will be sworn in as Canadian citizens.  This is always a very touching and moving ceremony to be a part of.  These families are so proud to become citizens of this great country!  The ceremony will be followed by the military marching band from the Canadian Armed Forces.  They will then raise the Canadian flag and they will all sign the national anthem.  – we recommend you bring tissues.  There will not be a dry eye in sight!  No matter how many times I have witness this ceremony, I still get goose bumps and cry like a baby! At 12 noon, all the new citizens and 2000 of their closest spectators will be treated to a slice of the traditional Canada Day cake! From 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., 21 traditional cannon shots will mark the day of celebration. Picnic areas and food trucks will be set up for everyone to enjoy their own celebrations and to enhance everyone’s festivities! The evening entertainment will surely be grand like every year!  No matter what the weather will bring, there will be concerts, shows and fireworks for everyone to enjoy! EC Montreal’s teen language adventure begins on July 1st and they will be spending the afternoon … Read more

A Neighborhood to Discover: The Mile End!

There are many amazing areas in Montreal, each one is different and unique!  EC Montreal students tend to hang around in the city center, which is spectacular, however, we encourage our students to discover other neighborhoods and find all those wonderful hidden treasures in Montreal! Last Friday, we visited the Mile End.  This area is a residential area that has trendy shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.  It is located between the Plateau and Little Italy.  Most of the eateries have amazing patios and they were packed last night!  It was the first day of summer and the weather was divine.  Everyone wanted to be outside!  It was amazing watching everyone enjoying cocktails or sharing a bottle of wine while chatting over a meal.  Everyone seemed to be taking advantage of the sweet start of the summer month! The ice cream parlors had huge line ups and the cafes were so full, people were spilling out into the street.  Throughout our walking tour we stopped to snap photos of all the bicycles leaning up against fences or trees with the typical Montreal row houses and winding staircases in the background. We walked past famous Montreal landmarks such as St-Viateur Bagels and Café Olympico, places tourists and celebrities make sure to frequent during their stay in Montreal! It was a glorious walking tour of the Mile End and a real treat for our students to discover another great area of Montreal!!

Happy EC Montreal Students Tell us How They Feel!

At EC Montreal we love getting feedback from our students!  It makes us feel great knowing we are making such an amazing impact on our students’ lives.  We ask our students often what they enjoy most about EC Montreal and what we can do to make their stay even better!  It is all about the customer experience!  Our mission at EC Montreal is to ensure our students have a memorable experience and can easily recommend us to their friends! Check out what Amani BouAntoun from France and Chris Adams from the USA had to say about EC Montreal!!   Amani: I started English classes at EC Montreal which is a very good school, two weeks ago in order to improve my level. I have had the opportunity to meet students from all around the world and I was able to practice every day during different activities and classes as business or culture and civilization. There are also a lot of things we can do with the other students on the afternoons in Montreal, Ste Catherine street is actually a huge place where you can hang out every day and have fun with your friends. Moreover, many festivals take place all the season long! I really recommend this school to every one who wants to learn a lot and discover a new way of life! Chris: I’ve had a really good learning experience here.  The classes are small and the program is well organized — there’s a sense of focus but also fun. The school’s location in downtown Montreal is also good since there’s lots to do nearby. I like it and plan to come back.

Our EC Montreal Students are Special

Our EC Montreal students are special!  This is what I hear from our Homestay hosts.  They absolutely adore our students and feel they are more dedicated to learning English or French than any other students they have hosted.  I was recently speaking to one of our homestay hosts, Mrs. Salvatore, and she advised me that her student, Juan Alvarez, from Spain, is a returning student from 2012.  They kept in touch all this time and when he decided to come back to EC Montreal, he absolutely wanted to stay with her! Mrs. Salvatore said it was a joy to host him once again since he takes his studies seriously, is polite and has a great attitude! I informed Mrs. Salvatore that getting a returning student is a big compliment and proof that she is offering excellent service to our students and contributing to their overall immersion experience! I felt so happy after speaking to Mrs. Salvatore because it reinforced my belief that EC Montreal students are indeed special and our hosts are absolutely terrific!

Memorable Homestay Hosts

Recently, I received an email from a former EC Montreal student who wanted to verify the address of the homestay family she stayed with while studying here. She has studied ESL in Montreal many years ago and she fondly remembers her host, Johanne.  She wanted to surprise Johanne by sending her a gift! It was a very nice gesture,  especially since so much time had gone by since she studied at EC Montreal!   It further shows how students taking an English or French course at EC Montreal create such a strong bond with their homestay hosts and the experience has a positive impact on their overall learning experience.   Very often students and hosts become lifelong friends!

First Day of Summer!

Today is June 21, the official start of summer!!  After a long winter and wet spring, the arrival of summer was very much anticipated by our EC Montreal students!  It is a warm & sunny day in gorgeous Montreal!  It is a day to celebrate! We decorated the student lounge with summer objects; beach balls, sand pails and palm trees and surprised our students with bright, colourful popsicles! It was great hanging out with our students and enjoying the sweet start of summer!  EC Montreal has great plans for our students in July and August and we cannot wait to share them with our students; summer parties, fun excursions and thrilling activities await! Life is sweet at EC Montreal!
