Camping in the City!

Want to go camping without leaving the comfort of the city? As most EC Montreal students don’t have a car, nor like being away from a store to buy refreshments or a working toilet, then your chances of going camping are pretty slim. Thankfully, the joys of nature, the outdoors, and all that camping stuff is coming to us, with Parks Canada’s Learn-To-Camp weekend/Urban Campground at the Lachine Canal.

The area on the corner of Charlevoix and St. Patrick will turn into a fully decked out campground the weekend of June 21st + 22nd for the event. Right next to the Lachine Canal, the area will have all the camping-staples, without you having to sacrifice the conveniences of the city, at least not for too long.

Better yet, Parks Canada is basically doing all the real work for you. All you need to do is bring a sleeping bag and some dinner, and Atwater Market is super close, so don’t stress on that. Workshops and lessons on the basics of camping will be given too, for all of us unfamiliar with forest-survival.  You can also expect inflatable canoe tours, campfire-roasted marshmallows, and the chance to win a free camping trip for four.

Montreal’s Folk Festival will also be happening at the same time, located right by the Lachine Canal too. Folk music and camping in the beauty of nature (well, almost) sounds like an amazing weekend in the city!

Space is limited for this event, so if you want a spot at the Lachine Canal’s urban campground, you need to act fast!  Give the organizers a call at 1 888 773-8888 to save your spot or any more information that you may need.
