July 1 is Canada Day – which represents Canada’s Birthday! The entire country celebrates this special day and Montreal is no exception! The city of Montreal has created quite the schedule of activities and events this holiday! All activities will take place in Old Montreal, especially at the Old Port and around the Clock Tower. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. 25 families will be sworn in as Canadian citizens. This is always a very touching and moving ceremony to be a part of. These families are so proud to become citizens of this great country! The ceremony will be followed by the military marching band from the Canadian Armed Forces. They will then raise the Canadian flag and they will all sign the national anthem. – we recommend you bring tissues. There will not be a dry eye in sight! No matter how many times I have witness this ceremony, I still get goose bumps and cry like a baby! At 12 noon, all the new citizens and 2000 of their closest spectators will be treated to a slice of the traditional Canada Day cake! From 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., 21 traditional cannon shots will mark the day of celebration. Picnic areas and food trucks will be set up for everyone to enjoy their own celebrations and to enhance everyone’s festivities! The evening entertainment will surely be grand like every year! No matter what the weather will bring, there will be concerts, shows and fireworks for everyone to enjoy! Our adult EC Montreal students have an opportunity to take a trip to our Nation’s Capital, Ottawa, to celebrate Canada Day with Iko Tours! Whatever you choose to do on Canada Day, have fun and stay safe. For more information on the Canada Day festivities in Montreal, check out …
Montreal is an extremely attractive destination for international students and one of its biggest selling points is its affordability. EC Montreal informs students of this on their first day of school during the welcome presentation that Montreal has a low cost of living compared to other cities. We were very happy to read this week that Montreal has been officially ranked the most affordable city in North American according to a UBS study. A new ranking has confirmed that Montreal far outperforms other North American cities in affordability. Montreal’s low cost of living allows it to have one of the highest qualities of life in the world. Montreal ranks first for housing affordability. Toronto ranked 33rd, Mexico City 44th, New York 2nd and Los Angeles 6th. It has been shown that Montreal has the lowest average cost of services, which includes everything from tickets to cultural events to beauty services. Montreal also ranked lowest in average working hours, signifying that Montrealers enjoy more leisure time. Visitors can truly see the joie de vivre atmosphere in Montreal. Jana Krome is a lovely young woman from Germany participating in EC Montreal’s Bilingual Programme. Today was her last day at EC Montreal. Here is what she wanted to share about her EC experience: I really loved my experience here in Montreal and at the EC school. This city is perfect for young people and you will always have fun with the friends you make at school. I really improved my French and English because I studied both here. That was one of the coolest things. In the morning I studied French and in the afternoon English and with my friends, I was able to speak both. The teachers teach in a very cool way! I really liked the school because they offer a lot of activities as well and sometimes during the breaks, they do something and it was always fun to participate. That’s how you get in contact with a lot of different people. I learned a lot about different cultures because my friends, for example, were from Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Switzerland and Italy. I am thankful and grateful for this experience. Thanks to everyone and everything! Check out our Montreal English Language School.
