Most EC Montreal students use the metro system to get to and from school and to travel around the city. Our metro system is called the STM and conveniently located right across the street from EC Montreal. This is important, especially during the cold winter months. The metro system is also connected to our underground city which is 32 kilometers of passageways and tunnels to help pedestrians get through the city. The passageways are filled with great shops, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, movie theatres, banks and so many other services that it makes our commutes throughout the city a pleasure.
At EC Montreal we were thrilled to learn that Montreal’s metro system was named one of the best in the world! A report from US-based travel website SmarterTravel has included Montreal among the top 10 cities in the world for public transportation. The report valued cities with the best public transportation based on the city’s network reach, reliability, frequency and affordability.
SmarterTravel’s rankings also took into account how easy the system is to use for travelers, factoring in color codes and language options.
“Between its color-coded subway lines and wide-ranging bus network, Montreal’s public transportation will get you just about anywhere you need to – without being over-complicated,” reads the report.
Praise for Montreal went on to highlight how our transit network has a “handy list of major landmarks for visitors,” referring to Old Montreal, the Saint-Joseph Oratory, and the Jean-Talon Market, along with each metro’s stations nearest stop.
We were also praised for our low fares and several fare options available to residents and visitors alike.
