Several times a year, EC Montreal holds a traffic light party. The traffic light party offers a unique way to find out who is taken and who is available and looking for love! EC Montreal staff served our students colorful cocktails! If you ordered a green cocktail, it meant that go, go, go…and you are available to meet someone! If you ordered a red cocktail, it meant stop…I’m taken, don’t even think about it! A yellow cocktail signified, it’s complicated. I’m not with Mr. Right, I’m with Mr. right now! This traffic light party initiated great conversation among our students. When someone ordered a yellow martini, they were instantly asked, “why is it complicated?” The activity is a perfect ice breaker and really encourages our students to interact with one another and share their personal experiences with one another. It was wonderful seeing students from different parts of the world communicating with each other. EC Montreal has sometimes taken on the role of cupid, making the most wonderful love connections. We like to remain in contact with our EC alum and often hear the most beautiful love stories from students who have met at EC during a language course and this experience led to a relationship adventure. Many of our homestays have also shared with us that they get invited to their former students’ weddings and they had met their partner while studying at EC. We are always delighted to hear of these love connections, and it tickles us to know that we played a significant role in their love story. By creating these wonderful opportunities for our students to interact with one another and to be active outside the classroom, it opens the doors to so many possibilities and experiences. Cheers from all of us at EC Montreal!
Every week, EC Montreal meets with its departing students to get feedback on their learning experience. It is important for us to learn how our students feel about the services we offer and if there was anything we could have done to make it even better. This week we met with students from Spain, Poland, Brazil, Japan and Italy. This is what they had to say about their EC experience: My experience at EC Montreal was so good. I improved a lot my English. Thanks for everything – Sergio, Spain I was especially excited by the fact that I could meet and talk to people from all around the world. It made me more open-minded and curious about the world. – Stanislaw, Poland EC Montreal is a modern school in a nice place with good teachers where I felt comfortable and relaxed to learn and improve my French knowledge. I would recommend this school to all my friends. Thanks. – Ralf Peter, Brazil I heard that Montreal had very few Japanese people so this is why I chose EC Montreal. My favorite activity at EC was the corn festival. – Momo, Japan I decided to come to improve my English skills at EC Montreal because I have many relatives that live here so I didn’t need to pay for an accommodation. I don’t know how much I improved but I hope that it happened. In a first moment, I didn’t like my class, after that I complained about my problem and I changed my class and it was better for me. I didn’t follow the EC activities because after school, I preferred to visit the city by myself and during the weekends, I preferred to go around with my relatives. – Tania, Italy Join us and Learn English and French …

Did you know that Montreal has a Six Flags Amusement Park? It is called La Ronde and it is located off the island of Montreal on the man-made island of Ile Ste-Helene. The amusement park has so many cool rides as well as games, restaurants and amazing installation art! As the autumn season is quickly approaching, the amusement park will only be open on the weekends. You can enjoy the park until Halloween, when they will transform the park into a Halloween themed adventure! We recently learned that La Ronde will be putting on a huge event called Nuit Blanche. Nuit Blanche translates to white night in English which means sleepless night. The park will be open from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Friday, September 20, you can attend this all-night event! It will include drinks and dancing to the music of some really well-known local DJs such as Prince Paris, Poirier, Domeno and Miss Shelton. Most of the rides and attractions will be open for you to enjoy! The restaurants will also be open for this special one-night event and the STM will be offering free shuttle buses from the Frontenac metro station from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. You need to purchase your tickets online from the La Ronde website in advance. It is suggested that you purchase your tickets early because they are expected to sell out pretty quickly. This event sounds amazing and we are sure many EC Montreal students will be interested in this all-night party at La Ronde! EC Montreal took its Young Learners to La Ronde this summer and they had a blast! They didn’t want to leave the park! They kept lining up over and over again to go on the thrilling rides! Many students said it was the best activity …

Montreal is known for its festivals and cultural celebrations, so it is no surprise that they added a new festival to the already impressive list! The Vietnamese community of Montreal will be hosting a festival on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 4 to 11 p.m. at the Olympic Stadium. It will be held at the First Friday Food Truck Festival that takes place every month! The festival is called Viet Montreal and will showcase the Vietnamese culture through the food, history and art! The festival is inspired by the joyful street vibe of Vietnam and its mouth-watering food! Montreal’s Vietnamese community is made up of approximately 26,000 people. The majority of Canadian Vietnamese live in Canada’s largest metropolitan areas; primarily Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. Something EC Montreal learned at the last Languages Canada conferences is that Vietnam is one of the fastest growing markets of international students. It is a very interesting demographic as they are a very young population. They have a fast-growing middle class and a very young population. 50% of the country’s population is under the age of 30. The average age in the country is 28. They are traveling for both French and English language training. We hope to welcome more Vietnamese students to our EC Montreal family of students! EC Montreal hosts students from over forty different countries every month! In September, EC Montreal’s top fifteen nationalities include Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Germany, France, Turkey, Italy, Canada, United States, Russia, Ecuador and Taiwan. The world truly comes to us at EC Montreal! It is wonderful learning about so many different cultures and traditions and it truly warms our hearts to see our students making life long friends with students from different parts of the world! At EC Montreal, we will definitely be …
Carlos Leon is a student from Chile participating in EC Montreal’s French programme. Sadly, this is his last week at EC. Here is what he wanted to share with everyone about his EC experience: I chose Montreal because it is a city where you can learn English and also French. I had learned French at my school but was great because besides French, I could improve my English as well. I learned a lot of new things such as the verbs. On the other hand, in my opinion I improved so much. I started in the Elementary class and now my actual level is upper intermediate. Therefore, I really enjoy studying here as the teachers and the staff are very professional. Finally, I think that the best activity was to come to class every day, where I can improve my level and make a lot of new friends of different cultures. ESL School Montreal’s Mission is to help students succeed in a competitive world!
