AY Lectures

Sharing is caring!

000_0008AY (academic year) 30 (intensive English) students are required to attend one AY lecture per month.  Although these are obligatory for AY 30 students, all students and classes are welcome to attend these free lectures.  Each month, there is a different lecture topic presented by a different teacher.  Each topic is unique and interesting, and are 45 minutes with a 15 minute question and answer session.  The topics are chosen by teachers, although students are welcome to give suggestions.  Previous topics include hurricanes, homelessness, Halloween traditions, urban community gardening, a taste of South Africa, and Martin Luther King Jr.  This months lecture is going to be about elections, appropriately during election week in the United States.

For five and a half years, Helen has been the organizer of these lectures.  After attending these lectures, AY30 students are required to write a response essay.  Even if you are not an AY student, you are encouraged to attend these lectures to build some key skills, including listening and note taking.  Additionally, you you have the opportunity to explore different cultural outlets, from holidays to politics.  Because of these benefits, many teachers bring their students to these lectures.

This month’s lecture topic will be about elections, and they will take place on Wednesday, November 5th at 10:30, and Thursday, November 6th at 10:30.
