There is always a wave to ride here in San Diego and EC students are ready to catch it! Since the weather is always nice it’s hard to choose one outdoor activity over another. Without a doubt here at EC San Diego, surfing is the most popular one. It’s a fun way to get to know your classmates better while learning a new sport. The city also offers many events to keep track of during the summer. In the past few weeks, for example, we celebrated the Annual GROMFEST surf contest and the Guy Takayama Pro-AM. The holiday season is finally upon us, which means Christmas music, decorations, movies, shopping and many opportunities to ice skate around San Diego! There are a few skating rinks to choose from in San Diego, some indoors, some outdoors, and they all vary in price. The closest to EC San Diego, UTC ICE, is inside the UTC mall and is the largest of the skating rinks. The link will provide you with skating times for the public and rental prices. The last three rinks are all outdoors, but much smaller than the UTC ice rink. Horton Square ice skating rink is in Downtown San Diego, near the Plaza Horton Mall, and costs $14 for adults and $12 for children. A new ice skating rink, Rady Children’s Ice Rink, just opened up in Liberty Station and all proceeds go to Rady Children’s Hospital. The cost is also $14 for adults and $12 for children. The last option is a bit pricier because it’s a beach front ice skating rink, Skating By the Sea, in Coronado at the Hotel Del Coronado. Skating is $30 per persona includes skates, so throw on a light sweater and break the holiday ice at one of these beautiful indoor, or outdoor, skating rinks in San Diego!
For those of you looking for something to do on the weekend, you can spend a leisure Sunday morning at La Jolla’s Open Aire Farmer’s Market. You’ll get to enjoy tons of sweet treats and delicious foods from local bakeries and restaurants from the La Jolla district. There are various booths for desserts, locally grown produce and a selection of paintings and jewelry from local artists to choose from. If you’re still in the neighborhood after the farmer’s market, an EC staff member will be giving a walking tour to new students at 2 p.m. and enjoying a meal at Jose’s at 3 p.m., so EC students are always welcome and encouraged to join the fun every Sunday!
