What comes to mind when you think of Sunny San Diego, CA? Why, the beach of course!
Here at EC San Diego, students and staff alike enjoy the stunning beauty of La Jolla and the laid-back California vibe all at once! Students at ECSD can get the best that Southern California has to offer, and one of the most popular activities ECSD provides for its students is surfing!
Recently four ECSD students learned to surf at La Jolla Shores Beach with a personal surf instructor set up through the school’s activity coordinator. The students had the chance to experience the fun and the freedom of surfing the swells of Pacific Ocean, its waters now warmed by the seasonal summer temperatures – the beach got to 75 degrees (°F) that day!
Outfitted with wet suits and boards, each student learned the basics of paddling out and navigating the uneven ocean waters – they even learned to “turtle roll”, the difficult rolling move that allows surfers to dive under large incoming waves! They were taught how to keep the surf board balanced, how to catch a wave, and the technique of “popping up” on their boards to ride their wave to the beach! At EC San Diego surfing is one of many opportunities to try new and exciting sports and activities, all while learning English, making friends, and forming great memories! Gnarly dude!
