Teacher Karl on Cambridge English Courses in San Francisco

It is known that EC is the place for taking Cambridge English Courses in San Francisco.  Teacher Karl absolutely agrees!  Take a look at what he has to say about teaching Cambridge Courses: “Like all standardized tests, the Cambridge exams lurk in the background at EC. Most students are not aware of them.  However, for those students who feel passing one of these tests is an important milestone, our test prep may be seen as the most important formal language learning of their lives.  It is therefore crucial that we get it right, and that we help students become aware of what the test measures, how it measures it, and the best strategies to succeed.  (And as a side note, our pass rate at EC San Francisco is very impressive.) When I first saw examples of some of the Cambridge exam tasks, I was really confused.  Why was I being asked to do this odd thing?  How did it connect to any reasonable method of measuring my English ability?  However, I had to assume that Cambridge University was not controlled by madmen, so I set out to try to find connections between the test tasks and real language use.  And they exist, big time.  The methods of assessment take a bit of getting used to, but what they are measuring is a totally valid analysis of a student’s ability to use English in ways similar to those of their first language.  I find that most students flounder in the first few weeks as they try to make sense of the connections.  However, once that happens, amazing progress can happen, not only in the test prep, but in English proficiency overall.  The Cambridge exams are by no means the perfect fit for every student, but it is well worth taking a … Read more

Julian Hégé is Learning English at EC San Francisco

Julian from France: “This city is filled with surprises”

Recently, some of the students who were part of a special group that was here from Strasbourg, France took the time to share some thoughts on their experience.  They were required to go abroad as part of their business program at the EM Strasbourg Business School and in this case, this requirement brought them here for English Courses in San Francisco. Here is what Julian had to say: “Ever since we got here, I feel like a child seeing the world for the first time. This city is filled with surprises and places to go and I am more than satisfied of what I saw and experienced here. I knew that when I’d go back to France I’d be more mature and open to the world, but I would’ve never thought it would be that much.  What we experienced here was literally a dream: I’ve always wanted to study in the US, no matter how long, I just wanted to do it and be able to tell people that I “know” what it’s like.  Now that we are reaching the end of our stay, I am more than pleased to say that we enjoyed every single minute here. I’m glad that I worked hard to get into our business school in Strasbourg, because this international experience wouldn’t have been the same without the people that I came along with.  I strengthened some friendships and got to know other students at the same time.  This trip also made me think of what I want to do with my life and how I can get there. Besides, the courses and the atmosphere at EC were very enriching and I am proud to say that I improved my English skills a lot.  I hope I’ll be able to come back here and relive my memories.”

Claire Gallion from Strasbourg talks about Learning English at EC San Francisco

Claire from France: “Teachers at EC are the best”

Recently, some of the students who were part of a special group that was here from Strasbourg, France took the time to share some thoughts on their experience.  They were required to go abroad as part of their business program at the EM Strasbourg Business School and in this case, this requirement brought them here for English Courses in San Francisco. Here is what Claire had to say: “First of all, I had an amazing time here in San Francisco and also at EC. During our 10 week stay I learned and discovered a lot. I achieved my goal by improving myself in English and discovering a new culture. People here are open-minded and willing to help you. Thanks to the time we spent here I hope and I think I learned how to be more open-minded myself.  I also learned how to be myself and to enjoy life. Teachers at EC are the best and very different from French teachers. The way they taught us was amazing because we learned how to speak, read and think in English in an interesting way. Your classes were particularly interesting and enriching.”

Loève Ruf from Strasbourg reflects on her experience while Studying English at EC San Francisco

Loève from France: “San Francisco changed my life”

Recently, some of the students who were part of a special group that was here from Strasbourg, France took the time to share some thoughts on their experience.  They were required to go abroad as part of their business program at the EM Strasbourg Business School and in this case, this requirement brought them here for English Courses in San Francisco.  Here is what Loève had to say: “I think my stay San Francisco changed my life in a certain way. In fact, it opened a lot my mind and made me discover a lot of new things. Here, everybody accepts the others and there is a kind of harmony in the city. Moreover, the weather is very pleasant and it made me very happy every day. To me, it is like a “dream city,” everything seems so perfect and without any problem. I really love the American way of life, except the food (I really miss French food) and the prices which are very very high. Everything also seems to be easy to reach in San Francisco: you can easily get the job of your dreams, live incredible moments thanks to friendly people and whatever you want to do, you can.  Should I also praise how beautiful the landscapes are here?  It is really breathtaking. Concerning the courses in EC San Francisco, at the beginning I didn’t really feel progress in English, but when I went to the advanced class I think my English level has become better. Honestly, your courses were very interesting. We were able to have lots of debates and this is a very good way to learn how to speak English fluently. You always tried to make your best to interest us and it was really enjoyable. Thanks to you, I also learned a lot of vocabulary.  Don’t change … Read more

French student Ariane recounts her experience while Studying English at EC San Francisco

Ariane from France: “EC San Francisco is an amazing school”

Recently, some of the students who were part of a special group that was here from Strasbourg, France took the time to share some thoughts on their experience.  They were required to go abroad as part of their business program at the EM Strasbourg Business School and in this case, this requirement brought them here for English Courses in San Francisco.  Here is what Ariane had to say: “This ten-week trip in San Francisco has been an enriching experience I think. I have never been abroad for so long before this trip. When I think about San Francisco, I remember tons of wonderful memories.  EC San Francisco is an amazing school where all the personnel is attentive.  I also think that the teachers are very competent.  They know how to make their courses interesting. In addition, the international students are open-minded and mostly outgoing.  We had the chance to discuss with businessmen, with native students, to visit outstanding places. I can’t wait to see the Facebook establishment this afternoon! We visited many places by ourselves. I have been amazed every day. I had the opportunity to go to other cities like Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.  During this expatriation, I fulfilled many of my dreams and I feel pleased about that. Now I understand why California has this exceptional reputation; people are tolerant and the atmosphere is cool. The only bad thing was the fact that we could not go into bars, that we can’t do anything under 21. Apart from this, our residence-  the Monroe- was not that good but it is okay when you are with your friends.  We go back to France in two days, and sincerely I don’t want to. If I could, I would stay much longer. To my mind, your courses were the most interesting … Read more
