Maiko’s Testimonial: “EC SF is very international”

Last week Maiko from Japan completed her time studying at EC San Francisco. For twelve weeks she took classes in the Semi-Intensive Program, which entails 24 lessons per week. Maiko had some great things to say about her time at EC SF, and so before she left we asked her to give a few thoughts about her experience taking English courses in San Francisco. Here is what she had to say and the advice that she wants to give to students who are considering studying here: Maiko said that she decided to study at EC San Francisco because her agent recommended the school to her. She was told that there was a good mix of nationalities who studied at the school and that “the lessons and curriculum is good.” And what was her favorite things about studying at EC SF? She talked about how she was able to enjoy “a lot of fun activities” while she took classes here, and also that the schools “is very international.” When asked what her favorite thing about San Francisco was, she said that “she couldn’t choose,” because she had “too many wonderful memories!” We also made sure to ask Maiko what her advice would be to incoming students planning to study at EC SF, and she warned to “be careful about your attendance!” This is very important advice, for not only is always important for all students to attend their courses and have good attendance because it is required by the program,it is the best and most effective way to improve one’s English skills! Gineth and Gustavo’s Testimonials: “I like the activities”

Gineth and Gustavo are two Colombian students who recently completed their time studying at EC San Francisco. They met each other at EC SF, and after completing their student testimonials they requested to take their photo together as “compatriots of the same country.” Gineth studied for 11 weeks at EC SF, taking General English courses to help further her career back home in Colombia. EC SF was recommended to her by her agency in Colombia, and she ended up enjoying her time studying. “You have good teachers,” she said, and she “liked the course activities.” She also mentioned that she appreciated that the courses are very interactive, “like a workshop.” Gineth also said that she “liked [the] free classes” that are offered to students twice a week at EC SF, including the Free Study periods where students can help from an EC SF teacher on any topic or subject they want to work on (including homework assignments!). There are also free classes that focus specifically on pronunciation and writing skills. Gineth specifically recommended that students at EC SF take advantage of these courses, and that taking the “listening electives” are a really great way of making the most of one’s time studying at EC San Francisco. When asked what her favorite memory of San Francisco was, Gineth spoke once again about the activities, particularly those outside of the school, as well as the fact that “people are so friendly and happy.” Like Gineth, Gustavo’s agency in Colombia recommended that he study at EC San Francisco. Micael’s Testimonial: “Take the time to learn!”

Micael is a Portuguese student who is currently living in Switzerland, and he took General English courses at EC San Francisco for eight weeks. He stayed at the Monastery, EC SF’s student residence, and everyone appreciated Micael’s friendly and positive attitude. We are sad to see him go! Before he left to return home, however, we asked him to share a few thoughts about what it is like to learn English for academic purposes in San Francisco, and here is what he had to say: Why did you choose to study at EC San Francisco? I chose EC because many people told me: “It is a very good place to study and San Francisco is very cool.” What was your favorite thing about EC San Francisco? Genie’s Testimonial: “Being a student ambassador helped me practice English”

  Hye Gin, who everyone knows as Genie, is a Korean student who recently completed taking Academic Year courses at EC San Francisco, studying for 12 weeks in total. As well as her English courses, Genie also was a student ambassador at EC SF, a program when students take on a role of planning activities and being a resource for other students. Genie was well liked by both her peers as well as the teachers and staff at EC SF, and we miss her very, very much! Before she left to return to Korea, Genie took a few minutes to fill out a student testimonial to discuss experience at EC San Francisco. Here is what she had to say: Why did you choose to study at EC San Francisco? I was looking for a school to practice my speaking skills, and my agency said that EC focuses on speaking. What was your favorite thing about EC San Francisco? Being a student ambassador. It really helped me practice my English with many students, and it improved my speaking skills. What is your favorite memory of San Francisco? Spending time with my international friends is my favorite memory of SF. SF is a beautiful city itself, however, it is the most beautiful city every when you get to experience it with your best friends. Olga’s Testimonial: “The teachers were kind and fun”

Olga from Russia recently studied at EC San Francisco. She was in the General English program, and even though she was here for a week, she said she still managed to learn a lot! Before she left we asked her a few questions about her time at EC SF and about the benefits of taking commercial English classes in San Francisco. Olga said that she decided to study at EC SF for two reasons: she loved San Francisco, and that she head “lots of good things about EC by word of mouth.” When asked what her favorite thing about the school was, she talked about the teachers that she had: “they were kind and clever” and that she “had a lot of fun” taking their classes. She also mentioned the content of the classes as well, saying that she liked the “interesting lessons” that made her think. In addition, Olga talked about the people at EC SF, including the students, teachers, and staff. Jacapo’s Testimonial: “EC San Francisco has best rate of quality/cost”

Jacapo is an Italian student who took General English courses for four weeks at EC San Francisco. Before he left we asked if he would answer a few questions about his stay and his experience taking intensive English courses in San Francisco. Intensive English courses allows a student to focus on different skills at once, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing, which leads to quicker improvement in the ability to converse and understand the language. Here is what Jacopo had to say about his time at EC SF: Why did you choose to study at EC San Francisco? I compared different schools on the base of internet judgments and EC San Francisco has the best rate of quality/cost. What was your favorite thing about EC SF? The organization of the lessons, the possibility to discuss different arguments and practice vocabulary. What is your favorite memory of SF? There are a lot of activities that you can choose after lessons. The bonfire on Ocean Beach [a student activity hosted by EC SF and Expedition America] was fantastic! What advice would you give to a new student learning English at EC SF? I suggest following all of the lessons because the teachers are really fantastic and are very interesting. Orachoon’s Testimonial: “I loved the activities at the school”

Orachoon from Thailand recently completed her studies at EC San Francisco. She studied here for almost twenty weeks! While she was here she took Semi-Intensive courses and her English improved greatly during her time studying at EC SF. She also made many friends during her time here, and we are very sorry to see her leave! But before she left we talked to her about her experience at EC SF and what she thought about taking English courses in San Francisco. When describing her favorite things about EC SF, Orachoon said that she “loved the activities of the school,” which were “very fun” because she could “join in on them with her friends.” She also described how student activities provided the opportunity to “meet everybody in the school.” She said that her favorite thing about San Francisco were the people, and how friendly everybody was. She also talked about how she was struck by all the different types of people who live in this city, and was very impressed with how people in the city respected everyone else. Orachoon first found out about EC SF on the internet while she was researching possible English language schools, and decided to attend because there weren’t many students from her home country which would allow her to have new and difference experiences, and also that after seeing pictures online of the school she thought it looked like a good fit for her. When asked what she would recommend to to a new student at EC San Francisco, Orachoon said that students should get out and discover things that are “good and exciting,” as well as study hard in your courses. Andrea’s Testimonial: “Speak English with everybody, all the time!”

Andrea is an Italian student who recently took English courses at EC San Francisco. Though he was only able to take classes for a week, he made the most of his time at EC SF, participating in the Business for English group and attending several student activities. We wish he had more time to spend with us before he had to return back home! Before he left, however, we asked him to share a few thoughts about the time he spent at EC SF and the advantages of taking English courses in San Francisco. When asked about what his favorite thing was about EC San Francisco, he said that “it’s a very fun community.” He decided to attend EC SF because he found out about the school on the internet and decided that he “would like to improve my English level.” And so even though he only had a short amount of take classes, he decided to do it anyway. Andrea said that his favorite memory of San Francisco was the opportunity he had to visit the Golden Gate Bridge. Sylvia and Helena Show Why Everyone Should Study English in the USA!

Recently EC San Francisco said goodbye to two special students, Sylvia from Canada and Helena from Brazil. When most people think of an international student they probably picture a university or maybe a high school-age student. But Sylvia and Helena show that anyone can be a student, and that learning is a lifelong endeavor. Everybody, no matter what their reasons for doing so, should take the opportunity to study English in the USA! Everybody enjoyed having Sylvia and Helena attending classes at EC San Francisco, appreciating their warm personalities, bright smiles, positive attitudes, the friendly presence. Sylvia lives in French Canada and recently decided that she wanted to learn English as well. She spent two weeks at EC San Francisco and transferred to EC Los Angeles, and she is considering attending several other schools as well (she said she wishes there was an EC school in Hawaii!). She is certainly making the most of her time spent travelling. Before she left us, however, we asked her to share a few thoughts on her time at EC San Francisco.
