Community Ukulele Jam Session

The Illusion

Where: Rockefeller Arts Center Bartlett Theater

What: When a man’s search for his missing son leads him to a sorceress, he is presented with a variety of visions as to what might be. It’s then up to the man – and the audience – to sort out the mystery. The Illusion is the work of award-winning American playwright Tony Kushner. Kushner brings the beauty of language and a sense of humor to this contemporary adaptation, which is based on a groundbreaking play by 17th-century French writer Pierre Corneille. Fredonia Wind Ensemble

What: Paula Holcomb, conductor. The Fredonia Wind Ensemble will perform Mark Engerbretson’s Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Wind Ensemble with guest soloist Susan Fancher. Susan Fancher is an internationally-recognized concert saxophonist known for her deep, poetic musical interpretations. The program will also include Nicholas Maw’s American Games, Aaron Copland’s The Promise Of Living, and Leonard Bernstein’s Profanation from “Jeremiah, Symphony No. 1.”

The Claudette Corel Piano Competition

When: 12-4:30pm

Where: Mason Hall Rosch Recital Hall

What: Ten competitors in the first Claudette Sorel Piano Competition come to the Fredonia Campus to perform for the final round. Each finalists will present a 15-minute recital that demonstrates their artistic vision. The competition is named for pianist and SUNY Distinguished Professor Claudette Sorel and is supported by a foundation she founded. 1st Prize winner will receive $2,500 cash prize and a 30-minute recording studio time with sound recording technician.
