Lunar New Year

EC Vancouver students! The Lunar new year is here! The Lunar new year 4712 begins on Jan. 31, 2014, and is celebrated by Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese communities all around the globe. At Chinese New Year celebrations people wear red costumes. Red symbolizes fire, which, according to legend, can drive away bad luck. The occasion will be commemorated with red and gold decorations, a dragon parade, music, dancing and fireworks in the city streets. The New Year of the Horse starts on Friday but the biggest events will be held on Saturday and Sunday, with smaller festivities taking place next week. On February 2nd, the Chinese New Year Parade will be held for 2 hours (12-2pm), starting at the Millennium Gate at Pender St. and heading east, turning south onto Gore St., then west onto Keefer St. You can also enjoy the free Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival & Cultural Fair at Sun Yat-sen Plaza after the parade (11am-5pm).

Burak Kilic from Turkey: “EC English is the best English Language School in Vancouver.”

Hello, dear readers. I would like to talk about life in Vancouver, EC English School (in my personal opinion, it is the best one in Vancouver) and a class called IELTS class, in which I study. My name is Burak and I am from Turkey. I have been in EC Vancouver for 5 months. After I graduated from university, I immediately came to EC. I think that I made the right decision choosing EC. To tell the truth, there are a lot of reasons to come and study in Vancouver and, of course, in EC. To begin with, there are a lot of attractions and places for sightseeing in Vancouver. Therefore, nobody recognize that time goes too fast until receiving a graduation certificate. Anyway, let’s talk about interesting places in Vancouver. For example, the steam clock and Harbor Centre (I strongly recommend going to Harbor Centre and taking a beautiful photo of Vancouver) are some places where Downtown can be seen and visited. Moreover, you can easily notice that many people in Vancouver like the Vancouver Canucks ice hockey team.  Please don’t say anything bad about  the team to anybody, because sometimes they can be very sensitive about it. By the way, life can be more colorful if you want. I mean that there are plenty of pubs and night clubs in Vancouver, yet Malone’s pub is our favorite one. If you like drinking and singing karaoke, I recommend going there. I just prefer drinking! I usually stay away from singing karaoke, since my voice is like a raven. And….other places to go? There are the Rocky Mountains, Grouse Mountain and Victoria Island. You can go snowboarding and skiing if you like. Apart from these, you can go to Stanley Park. Actually you have to go to Stanley Park! If … Read more

EC students having fun at Extreme Air Park

EC Vancouver students went to a local indoor trampoline park and bounced for hours! They dodged, ducked, dove and released all their stress and went back home with smiles. 🙂 If you want to have fun and make new friends, be sure to go and have fun at a trampoline park!          ==== EC offers various English Courses, including the IELTS course in Vancouver.

Welcome to our new staff member Khalid!

We are proud to introduce you to Khalid, EC Vancouver’s new student counsellor. Hello, My name is Khalid, I am originally from Saudi Arabia, I have been living in Vancouver since 2006, and I graduated with a Diploma in Audio Engineering and Sound Production. I have worked in the technology support team in a big company in the past. Here in Vancouver I worked at a major telecommunication company and at another ESL school where I gained a lot of experience and had a lot of fun. I enjoy working in the ESL filed where I get to meet people from all over the world in one place, what’s better than that? I once was new to Vancouver so I understand the cultural differences and difficulties that newcomers might come across. Please feel free to ask me anything!

Osama Ali A Bawazir: “EC School has the best English teachers I have ever met.”

Check out what Osama Ali A Bawazir (Intermediate 2)  from Saudi Arabia had to say about his experience at EC Vancouver English School! My name is Osama from Saudi Arabia. I have been in EC Vancouver for 3 months. I came to EC School on the 29 of December. For me, it was difficult to understand people who talked with me. On the other hand, my English speaking was not bad but now I think it is much better than before. About my future I’ll continue my education in a university in Canada after I have mastered the English language.      Really I met a lot of nice, intelligent, and polite students. I’d just like to say to the students who are in EC School, keep going guys, you are the best! To the other students who’ve graduated from EC School, I wish for you a wonderful life and never give up for anything! I don’t think I’ll find friends like these in anywhere in the world, and of course people who’re nice and good students, I wish for them the best life. EC School has the best English teachers I have ever met. They help me in the class and outside of the class, thanks to all the teachers who help me. I gave a presentation about my country Saudi Arabia. It was very nice. I was the first student who has done a presentation in EC Vancouver English School’s history. I really appreciate this. This was one of the best experiences that I’ve had at EC Vancouver.   Thanks to everybody who supported me and gives me an advice. Thank you. Donation for Philippines

Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms to make landfall anywhere, reduced almost everything in its path to rubble when it swept ashore in the central Philippines on November 8, killing at least 6.190 people, leaving 1.785 missing and 4 million either homeless or with damaged homes. So, since the middle of November, EC Vancouver English School has organized a collection to help The Philippines. We are so glad to report that we have collected $201 in donations to the Red Cross, which was sent on December 27th. Thanks all for your donations! 🙂 ==== Find out more about EC’s English Courses, including the IELTS course in Vancouver!
