We have no shortage of interesting sites to visit near our Washington ESL school, thanks to our amazing location, right in the heart of Washington DC, a stone’s throw from the White House, a short walk from the National Mall, with the Smithsonian museums and Capitol building within walking distance… but what about that little known, well kept secret, the Renwick Gallery? It is easy to miss, just down the street from the White House, but this quaint red brick building is home to some real treasures, with modern art and technology meeting to give visitors a unique look at the world around them.
So, why not take our students there?! That’s exactly what teacher Martin did with his Advanced class last Tuesday; after studying the topic of art and culture from their textbook in the first half of class, students were eager to get out of the classroom and put their new insight into practice. The Renwick is only 5 minutes walk from our school’s location, at Farragut Square in downtown DC.
Our students, including Nadia from Germany and Lucas from Belgium, pictured above, dutifully worked from their books in the museum while checking out the exhibitions on site. At the end of their visit, they were invited to fill out greeting cards for the museum, which you can see below – another valuable opportunity for students to practice their writing in an authentic context! This is real-life English!
Our location is a great benefit to our academic program, as we have the opportunity to take our students to these centers of learning – we also have the nearby Brookings Institute, the Smithsonian museums, and a host of under-the-radar art galleries such as the Phillips Collection, all within walking distance of the school.
We make sure that students are never bored and always have something to do when their classes finish. That’s why Washington DC is such a wonderful location for international students, and why EC Washington is the best choice for anyone wishing to study in the nation’s capital.
