Polyandry….Do you know what it is?

Are you bored with one husband? Perhaps you would like to explore your horizons, adopt another culture’s practices.

Did you know that in parts of Northern India, Tibet and China, there are groups of women that are polyandrous, meaning that they are married to more than one husband!

According to Sarva Daman Singh, in the Mahabharata, an ancient hindu text, it talks about a princess who married 5 kings.

People are strange…

Have you noticed anything strange about people living in England?

Did you know that putting 2 fingers up (facing forward) is rude, but if your fingers face the other way, it means peace?

Here are some other habits from around the world that you might find strange:

1. You can’t smoke on the street in Japan

2. In China, men can walk around in public wearing only their underpants

3. In Saudia Arabia, there is no tax

4. Crossed fingers in Vietnam has a very negative meaning

5. You can’t touch children on the head in Thailand

Are there any facts about your country that people might find strange?peace-symbol

Polar Bears

"Marmite? Grrr"

According to National Geographic, all polar bears are left-handed, have black skin and hate marmite.

Here is a picture of Gerald, a polar bear. Despite what we think, his fur is not white.  Each hair is clear hollow tube.  Polar bears look white because each hollow hair reflects the light.

Polar bears have also been known to swim 100 miles (161 kilometers) at a stretch.

Shame they’ll all be dead within 5 years. Sorry, Gerald.

Ring finger

It’s a little known fact that the reason we wear wedding rings on the ring finger of our left hand is because a long time ago, people thought there was a vein connecting the heart to that finger.

Can you guess what the three rings of marriage are? The engagement ring, the wedding ring, and suffer-ing!! Ha ha!
