How we teach

At EC, we follow a 'Communicative Method' syllabus, which works to develop all four English language skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening. Only when you are confident in all four of these areas will you achieve fluency.

To give an engaging and relevant framework to learning these skills, each lesson will focus on a specific topic, which will vary from current affairs to everyday issues. Your professional and friendly teachers will select topics that create interest, discussion and debate in the class.

This means as you engage with the language, you will also learn a lot about your classmates and different cultures around the world, all within an English context!

As well as taking an active part in classroom discussions, you will work on your language skills in small groups, pairs or individually on tasks and projects. And as you learn correct English pronunciation, increase your vocabulary, work on your grammar and improve your sentence construction, you will find you become able to express yourself in an accurate and appropriate way.

Free language workshops

At EC you will boost your course with extra teacher-led sessions, which take place outside of classroom hours. They are open to everybody and absolutely free of charge!

Workshops at all schools

Pronunciation Clinic - Learn to produce the sounds of native English

Lectures - Learn interesting facts and gain listening and note-taking practice

Conversation sessions - Practise conversation skills with a teacher and other students

Additional workshops

Each school's Free Language Workshops programme adapts to the linguistic needs of our students within the school. You are sure to have access to a rich and varied programme, focusing on many aspects of English.

English 24/7

The more practise and exposure you have to English, the faster your ability and confidence will improve. We encourage our students to use and be surrounded by English as much as possible outside of the classroom. This is how:

Beyond the classroom

An important part of your academic journey will be independent learning, achieved through homework assignments, set and monitored by your teacher. Homework will be based around your classroom learning and designed to activate your newly acquired language. You will receive constructive feedback on your homework, which will help and guide you towards fluency.

Home and social life

Our exciting activity programmes ensure you have a rich and varied social life while you study with us. Communicating and having fun in English is one of the reasons it's great to learn a new language!

And whether you choose to stay in a homestay or residence, there will be plenty of opportunity to practise your English with your housemates.

A complete experience

What better way to learn the language than to immerse yourself in an amazing city, where English surrounds you.

Speaking to classmates and homestay families, reading and listening to materials that you enjoy and discovering your new surroundings will all help you improve whilst you are studying abroad.

EC Guarantee

We are so confident you will reach your linguistic goals with us, we guarantee it!

Professional Teachers

At the heart of everything we do is our friendly and professional academic team, there to help you reach your full potential at EC. Your teachers will design useful and interesting lessons, all taught in a fun and relaxed way. Their goal is to make sure you learn as much as possible during your time with EC, and to do this they will personally guide, support and motivate you to do your best, every step of the way.

Maximum support

You will be supported by a team of two teachers during your time with us. As well as exposing you to different native English accents, they will work together to assess your needs and monitor your progress.

The best classroom environment

We strongly believe you learn best when you are comfortable and happy, so our teachers work hard to make that happen. Classrooms are relaxed, welcoming and fun, where a nurturing and secure environment will help to build your confidence.

Teacher lectures

At EC we celebrate the fact that each one of our teachers is a unique individual with different interests, experiences and perspectives. To demonstrate this and enrich your learning, teachers give free lectures on subjects they are most passionate about.

Great Nationality Mix

To make sure you speak English as much as possible (and not your own language) we are careful with the mix of nationalities we have in our schools. We try to ensure we don't have too many students in our school from any one country. On your course you can be sure of meeting people from all over the world.

Friendly Atmosphere

Our lessons are designed to be relaxed and fun. That’s because we believe you will learn more in a friendly atmosphere. You will feel confident using English and you will speak as much as you can.

Course Certificate

On your last day in school you will be given your EC Certificate of Study. This is proof that you have successfully completed an English course with EC.
