SUNDAY 24th JANUARY 2010
Students from EC Brighton school took a trip to Oxford this weekend, as well as stopping off at Windsor and Eton on the way. First stop was Windsor Castle where we hoped to have a cup of tea with the Queen! However, the Castle was flying a Union Jack flag which unfortunately meant that the Queen was not at home today!
Next we made a quick trip over the river to Eton College, Britain’s most prestigious independent boarding school for boys. The school was founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, and the outside architecture of the building is spectacular. Plus, the school was previously attended by 18 former British Prime Ministers!
Finally we reached Oxford, the ‘city of dreaming spires.’ The architecture of Oxford University is majestic and inspiring – every building is in harmony with the next, and looked stunning against the clear winter sky. We walked down the very staircase in the university that has been used in recent ‘Harry Potter’ films, and explored Christchurch, the smallest cathedral in England.
Finally, after a busy and successful day, we made our sleepy way home. Take a look at the photos, maybe you can spot yourself!
