The countdown to Christmas has begun. As those of you here in London learning English may have noticed, the shops are slowly being filled with Christmas decorations and presents. One of the key events to show that the festive season is on its way is the turning on of Christmas lights.
This evening, the Oxford Street Christmas lights will be turned on between 5.30 – 6.30pm, transforming the dark sky into a sparkling display of light and colour. X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will officially light up London’s most famous shopping street with 1,778 baubles and 750,000 LED energy-efficient bulbs. The switch-on will be also accompanied by a live performances as well as some celebrities.
For the students who are still learning English at EC London in November, the Carnaby Street Christmas lights will be switched on on Thursday 13th November and the Regent Street Christmas lights on Sunday 16th November.
