Cambridge Exam Preparation Students' Summer Reading List, Part I

Recently, we asked the Cambridge ESOL preparation course students to share some recommended reading texts with each other.  They could tell about a book, short story, or article that they’d read in English.  Here are some of their recommendations:

The 100-year-old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared (by Jonas Jonasson)—recommended by Linus
What’s it about?
After the old man climbs out the window, he will steal a great deal of money from a gangster. During this story, you will read about the unbelievable life the old man had. He’s responsible for many parts of our history.

What’s it about?
The book tells the story of a woman and a man who didn’t know each other but by destiny got involved.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (by Stephen Chbosky)—recommended by Hyunji
What’s it about?
It’s a story about a teenage boy who’s an outsider and his friends and family.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (by John Boyne)—recommended by Laura
What’s it about?
It’s about an unusual friendship between two boys. One is a Jew in a concentration camp, and the other one is the son of a Nazi commander.

You’re interested in history and politics and drama.
