Yes, it is terrifyingly cold outside. But there are still plenty of things to do in New York City indoors! Here are EC New York’s suggestions for the perfect weekend:
1. Lunar New Year Parade: On Saturday, February 21, there will be a huge, festive parade and party in celebration of the Lunar New Year in Chinatown. In addition to live music, firecrackers, and traditional Chinese performances, there will be delicious delicacies to try. The parade begins at 1:00 PM on Canal and Mott Street and travels in a “U” shape to Sara D. Roosevelt Park, ending at 3:00. Location: Chinatown Closest subway: N/R/Q/J/Z/6 lines at Canal Street station Cost: FREE!
2. Catch a jazz show at Smalls: Smalls is one of New York’s oldest and most famous jazz clubs. Tucked away from the bustling streets and the cold, Smalls is underground and somewhat hidden from street level. The dim lighting and exposed brick walls create a dramatic, yet intimate ambiance. The featured musicians are always top class, and the cocktails are shaken to perfection. Location: 183 W 10th Street Closest subway: 1 line, at Christopher Street/Sheridan Square station Cost: ~$20 cover
3. Restaurant week: This week is restaurant week in New York City! This means mega discounts to even the best of New York’s restaurants. Usually, menus are prix fix and include three courses and a drink is included. Be sure to make reservations!
