If you are taking English courses in Vancouver, EC Language Centers suggest you to visit Vancouver Art Gallery, which is one of the largest and most interesting art galleries in Canada.
The Vancouver Art Gallery was founded in 1931. It was originally located in another building, not far from its current location. Since 1983, the gallery occupies a building on Robson square, which previously housed the provincial court. Beautiful and impressive building with a dome, surrounded by high-rise buildings, is always under the sights of tourist cameras.
The gallery’s collection includes more than 10,000 exhibits: paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and other works of art. A significant part of the collection is the work of Canadian artists, including Emily Carr (Vancouver gallery owns the largest collection of her works), Jeff Wall, Stan Douglas and many others.
The Art Gallery is also famous for its excellent library: about 45,000 volumes of specialized literature, an impressive selection of periodicals, exhibition and auction catalogs, slides, etc. The Museum regularly hosts various temporary exhibitions, as well as educational programs and lectures.
After 5 pm on Tuesdays, the entrance to the Vancouver Art Gallery is completely FREE.
