Food insecurity is a real issue across the United States and right here in Massachusetts. Individuals and households that are food insecure do not have enough food to put on the table on a daily basis and do not know where the next meal is coming from. In Massachusetts the food insecurity rate has risen to 43% since 2008. That is over 700,000 people from children to the elderly, who are not getting enough proper nutrition.
Since 1969 Project Bread has been committed to finding sustainable and innovative ways to combat hunger and the annual 20 mile Walk For Hunger is one of the oldest and most iconic fundraisers. The 2012 Walk for Hunger brought together more than 43,000 walkers, 200 volunteers and raised $3.6 million to combat hunger. EC Boston students and staff helped raise awareness and enjoyed the great weather by particiating in the walk on Sunday!
