Days of the Week: Happy Hump Day!

Sharing is caring!

Happy Hump Day Everyone! Have you ever heard this expression? Do you wonder what it means?

“Hump” has many meanings, but one of them is to describe a mound of earth or “hill.” The expression “over the hump” means to overcome an obstacle or difficult period of time. This is the same feeling you get when you climb over a hill.

We made it to the top! Now it’s down hill from here!

Hump Day is a work expression for Wednesday. Since many Americans work Monday-Friday, Wednesday falls exactly in the middle of the week. For a lot of people, working Monday and Tuesday can feel like climbing uphill. Wednesday is a relief because this means only two more days until the weekend. Thursday and Friday is like going back down hill.

Now, the next time you hear someone say, “It’s Hump Day!” you know they mean Wednesday and that they are excited to be halfway through the week.
