This week EC Malta held a lecture given by the Psychotherapist and Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, Amalie Pisani, who intrigued our students with the fascinating world of dreams!

Students of all levels were encouraged to join!

Intermediate to Advance Level students came on Tuesday and Beginner to Low Intermediate students had their session on Thursday.

Students were encouraged to delve into their subconscious and understand the meaning of their dreams. Dreams reflect our fears, aspirations, childhood, premonitions and so much more! Carl Gustav Jung a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist , Sigmund Freud an Austrian neurologist and the founder of phychoanalysis and Frederick Perls a German psychiatrist and psychotherapist who coined the term ‘Gestalt therapy’ had different theories in dream interpretation. Students were called to identify the form as well as their theories and differences. In addition, Amalie realized shorts interactions and exercises with the students. “I liked the lecture, it was interesting to me because it is a new topic, we do not discuss it every day. I learned that there are types of dreams and the meaning of them”, says Juan Sebastian Vargas.

According to Amalie it’s important to understand your dream “It helps to understand yourself and the world around. It’s like looking into a mirror, sometimes you don’t want to leave home before looking in a mirror”. Students showed satisfaction with the topic, “It was an amazing topic and the psychologist was very good. She spoke slowly and clearly, so it was a very good way to practise my listening as well”, says Juan Camilo enthusiastically.

Finishing the lecture, students participated in a last exercise using their imagination while Amalie described a supposed situation. Besides being a relaxing moment, at the end she revealed the interpretation of what was imagined, related to their personal psyche and their ideas of love, religion, environment and death. “I often dream that I am flying and now that I know that there is a meaning I will research more about it. The activities were also nice”, complete Ai Taguchi.

For Mariana D’Cesare, the exercise was the best part of the lecture, “I liked the exercise because we could apply the theory to understand it better. I am also feeling very good because I could understand everything”.
