The holiday season is upon us! Those in New York have the pleasure of witnessing our busy city transform into a magical winter wonderland. There are countless seasonal festivities for those of all ages across the five boroughs.  Here’s what I believe are the top five holiday attractions you won’t want to miss this year.

1. New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show

The New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show features large-scale model trains and miniatures of New York City’s landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, and Brooklyn Bridge (made entirely of plant parts!). The attraction also features an Artist’s Studio which provides an insider’s look at how the replicas are constructed, as well as a showcase of historic model trains. The train show will run from November 16th through January 12th.

2. Union Square Holiday Market

From November 21st to December 24th Union Square Park will be holding its 19th annual Holiday Market. There will be over 100 booths selling affordable goods by local artisans. You can find handmade jewelry, clothing, crafts, and of course delicious foods.

3. Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square

The 14th annual Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square is New York City’s largest holiday festival. This one night only event will be held on Monday December 2nd. The celebrations will begin with a beautiful tree lighting in Dante Park and continue with free live performances, cheap eats, and even a coat drive. It is sure to be a fun-filled evening for kids and grown-ups alike.

4. Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is an iconic symbol of Christmas in New York City. With over 30,000 LED lights and topped with a beautiful Swarovski star, the spectacular tree lighting will make your jaw drop. The tree will be up from December 4th to January 7th so be sure to stop by and take plenty of photos!

5. Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal

From November 16th to February 23rd, the 12th annual New York Transit Museum Holiday Train show will run at Grand Central Terminal. The exhibition showcases Lionel trains making their journey from New York City to the North Pole! The attraction highlights not only a two-level, 34-foot-long miniature New York City and countryside display but also gorgeous vintage trains and posters from the museum’s collection.

Of course, there are plenty more events held in New York during the holiday season. I encourage everyone to visit all the festive offerings New York has for us this year. You will be amazed by the breathtaking sights! Plus, if you’d like to learn English quickly, you can always exercise your skills while on your visits for extra practice. I hope you find these attractions to be as remarkable as I do!
