EC English Language Schools understand that each of our students have different strengths, weaknesses and needs. For this reason, we offer a range of special focus classes that can be taken in addition to a general English course. These classes cater to specific language learning needs and interests.
Whether you’re learning grammar, vocabulary or speaking skills, in our Special Focus Classes there is a strong focus on real-life communication. Each week has a clear theme and real-life learning intention so students know exactly what they’ll be better able to do by the end of the week. Each day our students learn the language and skills they need to achieve the learning intention and discuss how they can apply this in their lives outside the classroom.
Depending on the needs and interests of their student population, different centres will run different Special Focus Classes but below are some of the most popular classes.
- Grammar for Real Communication: In this class, students don’t just learn the grammar rules, but also how to use the grammar in conversation. They learn to use not just one structure, but a range of structures together to achieve their communicative goal.
- Expand your Vocabulary: This class is perfect for students who want to learn a range of vocabulary. In this class, we don’t just focus on individual words, we look at how words go together to make chunks and phrases. We also explore how this vocabulary can be used in conversation, focusing on pronunciation and context.
- Speaking with Confidence: These days more and more conversations are taking place between people who don’t speak English as their first language. They might be from the same country or different countries. This class focuses on the skills you need to communicate confidently, as well as raising awareness of inter-cultural communication, ensuring that our students can succeed in a global community.
- Exam Skills: Depending on whether your ultimate goal is to move to an English-speaking country, study at an English-speaking university, or to have an official certificate proving your language level, you may wish to take an exam like IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, FCE, or CAE. In this class, you will learn the skills you need to be successful in your exam.
- English for Work: This class is designed for students who are currently working, or expect to work in an international environment in which English is necessary. Students learn the language and skills they need to be successful in any workplace, from meeting skills to management skills, and everything in between.
