Christmas in South Beach

Well, here we go again. It is the most special time of the year. Christmas time!!! Now, isn’t it? At EC Miami the USA School of English we are aware of what the deal is when it comes to Christmas. For our cool students being far from home is not a problem. Not at all if they ever want to come up with some fun plan to do with a friend or partner in Miami South Beach. This year, during the entire Christmas eve students and staff members of EC Miami kept in touch on our super awesome whatssap group in different ways. One of them was by sharing positive vibe Christmas messages wishing the best from one to another. Another way, was by uploading pics and videos we took along the way as Christmas Eve day went by. There was something truly unusual that we ran into on the group conversation thread, though. It was a wonderful pic with our students from Switzerland, Robin and Lars, on the beach. Here is how they have their say on their experience: “What’s better than a Christmas candlelight dinner at the beach with your best friend? All you need is a table with a nice tablecloth, a beautiful Christmas tree, a candle for a pleasant atmosphere and a delicious meal. (Unfortunately we only had enough money for one potato. Miami Beach is quite expensive…). Combined with a wonderful view of the ocean, the evening can only be great! Granted: The whole thing was a bit strange, but for the picture and the smiling faces it was definitely worth it!” Greetings, Robin and Lars. We just love the contrast between the pine Christmas tree, the sand, and the ocean. Anyways, as you can see, this is a perfect example of how our students … Read more

Thanksgiving at EC Miami

It’s that time of the year in which celebrations can not be passed up in Miami the USA School of English. The fall in the USA comes along with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This year, in the last week of November we had a yummy Thanksgiving lunch on Wednesday November 27th. We had an awesome time to share all together in which our students, teachers, and staff members at EC Miami had the pleasure to enjoy amazing food such as: the quintessential roast turkey, turkey stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and finally to wash all these down, refreshing apple cider. It is always nice to sit with people and have food together while having a little chat on plans for the long weekend-as a matter of fact, the longest weekend of the year here in the USA.     As another part of our Thanksgiving celebration at EC Miami, we asked students to write down what they are thankful for. The whole point was to have them read them out loud in the students lounge before enjoying all of that amazing food. It’s meant to be a special activity to express gratitude, and it is amazing to see how many positive and heartwarming things our students are grateful for. Here are some of the most relevant gratitude statements: “I am grateful for being healthy and having family and friends”, says Qendrim from Switzerland in Intermediate. “I am grateful for my beautiful wife and family. I am grateful that we are all healthy and happy. I am also thankful for everyday I can watch the sunrise and sunset”, says Joseph, the teacher of our elementary level. Finally, I am thankful for a happy life, that my mother is still alive, and … Read more

Learn English with Music and Sing along at EC Miami.

At EC English School Miami we love singing and we think it’s a pretty good idea to have our students involved. This week we had a special activity to combine English learning  with music. Anyways, what’s a better moment to chill out and a have a good time with music than right after class? We managed to get our participants in the mood by having a simple exercise with the song La Isla Bonita by Madonna. We know… what a hit, isn’t it? They had to listen to the song and complete some of the lines from the lyrics with words that were taken out. Participants showed they were engaged trying to catch such words, and it was funny because they thought they had heard a specific word and as a matter of fact it was a completely different one. In any case, when they completed the lines on the handout provided, we all together had a class discussion about what the message of the song is. Somehow, we found a link between la Isla Bonita and Miami Beach.         If you translate La Isla Bonita into English, it would go as The Beautiful Island. The point is very simple; Miami Beach is actually an island and on top of everything, it’s beautiful!!! So, there you go! Besides, just like in the song when it goes like this: “I prayed that the days would last, they went so fast”, we jumped to the conclusion that nobody wants to leave Miami Beach because they would love to stay longer. Finally, we sang along with lyrics  displayed on the awesome whiteboard in room 9 and it was quite a moment, very emotional by the way. Students were waving their phones up in the air with their flashlights on while … Read more

Miami, a great choice to come and learn English.

As an example of the meaningful and enjoyable writing exercises to Learn English in Miami, in the free class that we offer at EC Miami students were asking about the right structure of a paragraph. They learned that a reasonable paragraph should include three essential elements: a topic sentence, supporting points that can be supplemented  by one or two more sentences, and a conclusion. With all of this in mind, we decided to write about why Miami Beach is a great choice to come to the United States and learn English. Here is the written work by one of our students, Danil, who is in the Pre-Intermediate class. He actually finished up a very interesting paragraph that we want to share with you all this time: Miami Beach is a great choice to come and learn English for many reasons. First of all, the weather is very comfortable. I mean, it is convenient for me because it helps me relax and recharge myself after class. It doesn’t snow here. The temperature doesn’t go down like in other states and cities of the US. Secondly, everything is really close. You don’t really need to rent a car or a motorcycle to get somewhere. With a scooter, a bicycle, or even a nice walk you can get to supermarkets, restaurants, bars and stores very easily. Thirdly, people are amazing. They are really friendly around here. You can also make friends any time, and if something ever happens to you, you will get help from them as soon as possible. Finally, Miami Beach is located across the bridge from Miami, one of the big cities in the US where shopping is very convenient. When you need to buy something, you just find the nearest mall. There are many of them near here. You … Read more

Soccer with EC students!!

It’s no secret that football soccer is considered the most popular sport around the world. About more than two hundred million people worldwide play it. Amazing numbers, right? Either while watching it or playing it, fun is going to be there. It raises passion everywhere across continents. Being aware that the aim of the game is to drive the ball all the way up to the opposite team’s goal makes all kinds of players pretty excited, now doesn’t it? Of course, our students at EC English School Miami would not be the exception this time. They are big fans who really enjoy playing this awesome game that might be played either outdoors or indoors on a rectangular field of grass or turf. The only difference, though,  is that in indoor soccer the court is smaller, and even more convenient for our students since, trust me, the heat in Miami (not the Miami Heat basketball team, LOL) is going to make players tired in the blink of an eye.         This is precisely why just this once we picked a convenient and different property -Urban Soccer Five- a brand new place located on 1125 NW 71st St Miami, FL 33150. It is this kind of place that players rent to make sure they don’t have to deal the rain, just in case. On this occasion, our always cool teacher Joseph (the one with the green puma shirt) came up with the idea of getting soccer pick up games with our students at this spot. Many people showed up, actually fifteen, which was a really suitable number to make up a little tournament. Our students from Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Colombia, Belgium, and Japan got in to two teams with five players each. They all had the chance to play over … Read more

English at the Beach.

“Every morning we start heading to school from the students’ residence around 8 am. It’s a really nice view along Collins and Washington Avenues to then make a left turn onto Lincoln Road – the most popular pedestrian street in Miami Beach- all the way down to the iconic 1111 Lincoln Road building, where EC Miami is located. After making it there, we have three amazing hours to Learn English in Miami with fabulous teachers. Classes are full of English speaking interaction, communication, and even funny and engaging games.  Plus, let’s not forget about our very nice partners coming from countries around the world. It’s a really exceptional thing. However, what we really love is the fact that we have the chance to go to the beach every afternoon after class. We can meet lots of new interesting friends to improve our English with.  The point is to share our Miami Beach experience. The weather is so warm in comparison to the weather we have in our countries. It’s like a  piece of paradise if we don’t forget the palm trees. Our hours are really better than in many nations around the world, where it is necessary to wait for about 9 months until the summer . Let us not forget either about the smooth and relaxing crash of the waves to the sand at the beach. The sound by the seagulls add up to the beach ambiance as well. After sunbathing and having friendly conversations with new friends, we can go swimming in the extremely clean ocean. We don’t really want to go back home, honestly”, says Emma, coming from Switzerland. Looking at this photo– you’ll see the charm that the beach in Miami  has to offer. In this way, you will get an idea of the whole bunch of … Read more

Breakfast and English

Hi Everyone, Can you eat, learn and have fun at the same time ? Yes…only in one English School in Miami ,our school. Last Thursday, our students from the Pre-Intermediate level had breakfast with their teacher Rafael Perdigon at Einstein Bros on Alton Rd.It was a great opportunity to welcome Flaminia ,a new student from Italy. We also celebrate a very special week with our students from Saudi Arabia. Our charming Saudi students were very excited to share this time with their classmates from Italy,France and Turkey. Ammar,Ali,Faris and Abdullah explained to us how the Kingdom was founded. They also gave plenty of details on how the Anniversary of KSA ( Kingdom of Saudi Arabia)  is celebrated all across the country. There are really so many reasons to admire such an amazing nation and civilization. While we were having our delicious bagels, coffees and juices (some of the students were more conscious about their diets than the teacher) the students were given some activities to complete in their coursebooks.Reading comprehension, pair work and multiple choice questions were part of our menu too. They learned new vocabulary, new idioms and expressions. They used all this content to describe important landmarks, historical buildings, sites, and tirelessly spoke about their hometowns. It was very interesting how a couple of locals approached our class and asked some questions about our English courses ,but even more interesting than that, was the excitement of the students when they gave details about our school. It is so rewarding for a teacher to see the students interacting in English when just a couple of months ago their English was so limited. So,if you are around Lincoln and Alton, in our sunny city of Miami Beach, and you feel like learning English,or just feel like enjoying a place where multiple nationalities and cultures interact ,drop by 1111 Lincoln Rd Suite 301.We’ll be eagerly waiting for … Read more
