We want our students to continually be learning native phrases and new vocabulary. Learning American slang can really benefit the students as they talk to native speakers.

This weeks American Slang Phrase is…

“Go the extra mile”

Phrase: Go the extra mile

Meaning: Put in the extra effort/Go above and beyond what was asked

Example: “The paper requirements are 3-5 pages. How long should I make it?” “Go the extra mile and make it 5 pages.”


This phrase can be particularly useful in a classroom setting, and can encourage students learning English for Academic Purposes to put in that last bit of effort!
