This week’s American Slang Phrase is… beat around the bush!
The more American slang phrases you know, the easier it will be to communicate with native speakers!
Phrase: Beat around the bush
Meaning: Avoiding the main topic. Not speaking about the issue directly.
Example: “My mom told me to stop beating around the bush after she asked why the lamp is broken”
Students at EC SUNY Oswego might be told this phrase when discussing how they didn’t do their homework, forgot about a project, or skipped a class!
Can you think of a way to use this?
