Learning English in Vancouver: A Day Out!

Sharing is caring!

Whether you are learning English at EC Vancouver or planning your next holiday, find out what a typical day in Vancouver is like from breakfast to bedtime.

Not far from Vancouver’s nightlife district, the Twisted Fork Bistro serves French-style brunch food. They use fresh homegrown ingredients and feature a unique BC wine list as well as a cocktail menu. Its location makes it perfect for a hangover pit stop, but be aware that there is often a line on weekends. Their website also offers a cool feature allowing you to check their wait list even before you leave the house. Twisted Fork is located at 1147 Granville Street and serves brunch every day from 8am-3pm.

See an art exhibition

After a nice breakfast, venture down to the Vancouver Art Gallery (also known as the VAG), located near the Hotel Vancouver on Hornby Street. See a large collection of both traditional First Nations artwork and modern paintings, including works by renowned BC painter Emily Carr. The gallery’s exhibitions change regularly, offering a diverse selection of pieces. Check their website to see the current and upcoming exhibitions, as well as the future plans to develop the architecture of the building itself. The gallery’s main entrance is at 750 Hornby Street and is open every day from 10am-5pm, and from 10am-9pm on Tuesdays.

Go shopping

Head a few blocks over to do some shopping at the Pacific Centre, where you can find not only a variety of clothing stores but also many restaurants, electronic stores, and one of Canada’s exclusive department stores, Holt Renfrew. Be sure to visit some of the brands started in Vancouver, including Aritzia, Lush, and Lululemon.

Get some exercise

Vancouver is known for being a very trendy and healthy city, so naturally yoga is extremely popular. With hundreds of yoga studios to fit every budget offering classes for everyone for beginners to experienced practitioners. To relax after some shopping, be sure to stretch out at a yoga class. Afterward grab a Nanaimo Bar as a quick snack, a popular Canadian dessert named for an island off of the west coast of British Columbia made up of a chocolate wafer base, custard butter icing centre, and hardened chocolate on top.

Check out some local favourites for dinner

There are many places to eat around the city with meals available for every budget. Earls, Joey, and Cactus Club may no longer be unique to Vancouver, but they all began here. They all offer reasonably priced food and cocktails in beautiful, modern locations. If you feel like spending a bit more, try any of the restaurants run by the Glowbal group, each specialising in a different cuisine. Try Coast for great seafood, Italian Kitchen for Italian food, or their steakhouse, Black & Blue. All of their restaurants are located downtown in prime locations.

Out on the town

After enjoying a delicious dinner, check out Granville Street for a night on the town. Vancouver’s nightlife district provides entertainment for all inclinations, but remember that British Columbia’s drinking age is 19 years old, and be sure to bring at least two pieces of ID with you. Try Republic Nightclub for an awesome hip-hop room, but be sure to sign up for their guest list to enjoy a reduced cover charge and priority entrance. If Country music is your thing, visit the Roxy on Sundays for country-western night, where some people will even dress up in cowboy hats and boots! Try the Roxy on other days of the week for other genre-themed evenings. The Granville Room boasts a speakeasy vibe with wood bars and brick walls. This bar offers a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the busy nightclubs surrounding it, with happy hour discounts on some cocktails on weekdays from 5pm-7pm.
