EC Montreal is a member of Languages Canada. This association acts as the voice of the Canadian language training sector and its mission is to promote quality, accredited English and French language training in Canada, both nationally and internationally and to represent Canada as the number one destination for quality English and French language training. Every four years, schools are re-evaluated and must undergo an inspection to ensure they are upholding the many quality assurance standards set forth by Languages Canada. In late January, EC Montreal’s English and French programmes were audited. They looked at all areas of the centre including academics, accommodation, administration, activities, marketing and our junior programmes. EC Montreal successfully demonstrated that we are operating our school according to the standards and guidelines of Languages Canada. The inspector was blown away by our operating procedures, our centre facilities and the incredible language ability of our students. She met with a group of students of different ages, backgrounds and nationalities and could not believe how well they were able to express themselves and communicate. Below are the strengths that were pointed out in our audit report: EC Montreal is one of many EC locations around the world. The head office is in Malta. The documentation did demonstrate all the criteria to be in conformance with the standard. The school’s location is very good being on Ste-Catherine Street in Montreal and near Concordia and McGill Universities. It is directly downtown and near the Old Montreal area. They are near the great cultural places in Montreal for all the outside activities and near all the Montreal outside festivities. Students and the actual teachers speak very positively about the school. They are very happy to see the quality of the language teaching in the school. The management team is working very …
The month of March is maple season in the province of Quebec. It is tradition to visit a sugar shack, also known as a Cabane a Sucre, in French. Sugar shacks are located on maple farms where they extract sap from the trees and convert it into maple syrup. Quebec produces 91% of the world’s maple syrup. It is a big industry and we are very proud of this fact. Today, EC Montreal held its annual maple syrup festival for our students. We served all kinds of sweet maple treats including cupcakes, donuts, tarts, cakes, popcorn, cookies and pies! The students loved getting a taste of our very own maple syrup and reading all about maple syrup including nutritional facts and how it is produced. This coming Saturday, EC Montreal will take our students to visit a real sugar shack in the country. They will get a tour of the maple farm and have a traditional sugar shack meal that consists of eggs, ham, meat pie, pea soup and of course lots of maple desserts! Next Wednesday, we look forward to our tea and conversation activity where we will be serving maple tea! Life is sweet at EC Montreal! Take our English classes in Montreal and join in on the fun activities!
Every week, EC Montreal meets with its departing students to get their feedback on their experience studying at EC. This feedback is so important to us as it helps us to improve our services and truly listen to what our clients have to say. This week we met with students from Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, France and Georgia. Here is what they had to say bout their EC experience: Daniela Garcia From Mexico This has been an amazing experience. I have learned so much in so little time. I am especially thankful to my teachers for being so professional and patient with me. EC is a great opportunity to meet people from other nationalities and learn about their countries and traditions. I haven’t left yet and I am already looking forward to coming back to take another course! Milena Dias From Brazil I chose EC Montreal because the city is bilingual and I could improve my English while I learned a bit more French. The school is a little disorganized but I enjoyed most of it. I received my student book a week and a half after I started classes. Regarding the lessons, they were all great but I wish I had been given more homework. My accommodation was absolutely amazing. She really made my days even more happy and I felt really comfortable there. She always helped me with everything. Lara From Switzerland I chose EC Montreal because I have some friends in Toronto, so I can visit them as well. I learned a little bit of French. All I wanted was to be able to speak a little bit. I love Essadia. She wrote everything down and we could speak in her class too. Everyone could speak and not like in my class now where only 3 students speak …
Guilerme Quaggio is a student from Brazil participating in EC Montreal’s Intensive programme. Sadly, Friday is his last day at EC. Here is what he wanted to share with everyone about his EC experience: I chose EC Montreal for the city and the recommendations I found on the internet. I like the classes because they are very interactive and the teachers are great and patient to teach. I also made new friends who helped me to practice English after school. The classrooms are modern, bright and clean. I will recommend the school to my friends. I am interested in coming back next year to Montreal and studying at EC. As a suggestion, you could offer lessons for children from ages 8 to 12 because then I could bring my daughter along! Practice your English as well by studying at our Montreal ESL school!
Cesar Mendoza is a student from Mexico participating in EC Montreal’s English programme. Sadly, this is his last week at EC. Here is what he wanted to share with everyone about his EC experience: I chose this destination because EC is a prestigious school. I learned about the people from other countries and other cultures and lost my fear to speak another language. My favorite activity was the participation in class with other students, meeting people from other countries and having different teachers. At EC Montreal we wanted to give our Brazilian students a taste of home! It’s carnival time in Brazil and we are sure our students are missing this beloved 10-day event back home! This afternoon, we decided to transform our student lounge into a tropical Brazilian carnival! We got our Brazilian students involved and they were so excited to show off their culture with their new international friends at EC! They brought in drinks, cakes, sweets and other Brazilian treats. Some students prepared videos showing off the colorful and spectacular scenes of the carnivals in Rio. Others prepared music and gave our students samba lessons. We served traditional Brazilian sweet and refreshments! We served Brazil’s signature cocktail, Capirina as well as coconut water. Every table in the lounge was decorated with golden palm trees and platters of fruit! Our students showed us how to mix this famous cocktail and students had a chance to sample it. We handed out carnival beads and masks to all the participants and created an extremely festive atmosphere! For a few hours, we all forgot about the cold temperatures outside and got carried away by the sights, sounds and tastes of Brazil! We look forward to celebrating other cultures at EC Montreal soon! The world truly does come to us at EC!
Our EC Montreal students will be thrilled to learn that Montreal made it on another best city list! TimeOut, which is a global media and entertainment business has named Montreal the 6th best city in the world! They polled 34,000 residents from around the glob as well as their very own editors. They asked the respondents questions about dining, drinking, culture, nightlife, relationships, community, local neighborhoods and overall happiness. Based on the results, Montreal came in 6th place after New York City, Melbourne, Chicago, London and LA. The only other Canadian city to make the list was Toronto. They came in 23rd place. The survey also looked at urban culture, music, sociability, happiness, progress, attractiveness and a few other qualities. TimeOut explained that Montreal ranked high because it is “a top destination for letting your freak flag fly” and “it is one of the best cities in the world to just be yourself”. EC proudly has centers among the top 6 spots; EC New York, EC Melbourne, EC London as well as EC LA.
