EC BBQ in Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park is one of San Francisco’s greatest treasures. Nearly twenty percent larger than Central Park in New York City, you will discover gardens, playgrounds, lakes, picnic groves and great activities. In Golden Gate Park you can find a lot of hidden gems, such as the de Young Museum, the Conservatory of Flowers, Hippie Hill, Stow Lake… You will always find something interesting to do in Golden Gate Park! Families and friends love to reunite in this park to have BBQ at the nearby picnic area.   On May 11th, EC San Francisco organized a big BBQ in Lindley Meadow, which is a grand green picnic area inside Golden Gate Park. More than seventy students were part of the event! Our center director Ryan was the BBQ chef and cooked delicious burgers and hot dogs for everyone. We were very lucky to have a windless and very sunny weather this afternoon! The students enjoyed the BBQ eating, chatting, and playing activities such as volleyball, baseball, soccer and Frisbee. We all had such a fun time together! We can learn a lot from doing activities outside of school. Let’s join our EC San Francisco activities! Are you interested in studying in San Francisco? Mission-Dolores-Park-01

The Mission Dolores Park in San Francisco

San Francisco consists of some great districts. One of them is named the Mission District, which is located in east-central San Francisco. The area used to be occupied by a Hispanic population, so you can find many Mexican restaurants there. You might think as if you were in another country because you can see many people who can speak Spanish. In addition, the Mission District is also famous for lots of murals. Most of them were drawn as an expression of outrage over human rights and political abuse. You can’t miss one of the famous parks in San Francisco. There is a park called the Mission Dolores Park. The park is situated on land that was once a Jewish cemetery. The city bought the property in 1905 and established the park. The Mission Dolores Park is bordered by Church, Dolores, 18th, and 20th streets. It offers a soccer field, six tennis courts, one basketball court, a playground and a dog play area. If you go to the top of the park, you will see the wonderful view of San Francisco.     As our students love the park, they sometimes have a picnic there. There was an activity to have a picnic in the park two weeks ago. Each student brought their own food and drink to share with others. Many types of events are held in the park. One of my favorite events is the outdoor movie! There were a few outdoor movie events in the summer season last year. I joined the event with EC San Francisco students, and we talked about the topic of the movie with beer after we finished watching the movie. I hope we will have the same event again this year. EC Activities join in Disc Golf at EC San Francisco

Summer Disc Golf at EC San Francisco

At EC San Francisco, you get the chance to experience many unique experiences. For example, during this outdoor activity out in the town, students enjoyed playing disc gold and enjoying a new sport. Everyone had an excellent time and many people discovered their new talent. We were all around the cage trying to get in the basket making it more difficult every shot this time kneeling. Everyone’s getting a shot at the cage the second one is pretty fun as I had everyone kneel and try the same thing. By the way Roger’s birthday was today he turned 17 and it turns out he’s a really good disc golf player I think he’s just lucky or maybe his eyesight is just that much better than all of ours?! You can find so many ways of learning English when you study at EC San Francisco.

A perfect breeze and strong sun  and a three run homer kept the day at AT&T Park. And speaking of caps we all got free World Series Giants caps today! A day out at the ballpark is really fun a great way to bond with your classmates. English teacher at EC San Francisco, Drew, loves the Giants and often takes students to see games. At this particular game, they were giving away free hats. What an enjoyable day at the ballpark! Learn English in USA.

Student activities while studying ESL San Francisco

EC San Francisco students picnic in Golden Gate Park

Even though it was overcast and gray it was warm with not a lot of wind and we had a fun time trying different sports –first baseball–after crushing the first white ball when it had been hit it hard by Ben, we had to use the wiffleball which also got crushed but could easily return  back to shape by manipulating it with fingers. Believe it or not the only woman batting, tried both right-handed and left-handed –and she was good! We then tossed the American football around pretending we were running plays and tried even bad mitten and throwing frisbees around at the same time. I cooked up hotdogs and we had some drinks and chips and then decided to try the newest sports craze in United States which is disc golf–since we were right next to the disc golf field we decided to try playing for nine holes–it was a blast for us trying to figure out the wind patterns and throwing the frisbee looking disks between trees and in fact everyone was pretty good at it!
