Phoebe

Phoebe from Taiwan: ” The most incredible experience I’ve ever had”

Phoebe from Taiwan was looking for a place to study English and she ended up opting for EC’s ESL School in San Francisco. She studied at EC for 14 weeks, where she took an Intensive Course. In addition to this, Phoebe participated in a lot of activities organized by the school. She got to meet people from all around the world and to have amazing experiences. Here is what Phoebe had to say:   In 2018, I made a big decision that was to quit my of 5 years job to join EC San Francisco to learn English. I’d learned English for over ten years, but both of my communication skill and grammar are the weakness. “Lack of confidence” is the most important reason. As a result, I can communicate with people who are from different countries without fear now which is the result that I’ve ever thought. There are two reasons why I feel my English Communication skill is better than before. First, I studied hard by myself and with the EC teachers’ support. I still can remember the first week in EC. I seldom gave my points of view during class because I was afraid I’d say something incorrect. Moreover, I felt a little stressed due to other classmates speaking better than me. On the positive side, I studied harder than before, tried to improve my English more and more. One thing I want to highlight is Ryan truly cares about how student feel studying at EC. When I came to EC for about one month, I submitted a questionnaire about how satisfied you are in EC. I wrote that I hope my teacher can correct my grammar and vocabulary anytime in class. After only one day, Ryan called a meeting with me and said that he … Read more

Michael

Michael from Germany: ”I could study hard in professional atmosphere!”

Michael from Germany was looking for a place to study English and he ended up opting for EC’s ESL School in San Francisco. He studied at EC for 8 weeks, where he took an Intensive Course which included TOEFL class. In addition to this, Michael participated in a lot of activities organized by the school and he got to meet people from all around the world and to have amazing experiences. Here is what Michael had to say:   My trip started at the beginning of my last semester break at the end of July 2018. Eight weeks intensive English classes and a final TOEFL exam lay ahead of me. After a great introduction day, I started to study the event schedule of EC School San Francisco. My target was to enroll in as many activities as I could, to improve my English skills and enjoy the wonderful sightseeing spots in San Francisco. In retrospective, I must say that I enjoyed the volunteer California Culture and History classes led by the Teacher, Gifford, the most. This knowledge was very important for me in a lot of touristic places in the city. Once Goethe said, “We only see what we know”. During my first week with my teacher Gregory, I struggled a little bit with his austerity. After all I have to say that this teaching style improved my English a lot. The EC staff always tried to improve the learning methods and the communication between students and teachers. I would recommend studying English in this school to all students who are willing to study hard in a professional atmosphere. My only negative statement about San Francisco is the cost of living and the impact of the homeless on the streets. However, I can say that San Francisco is one … Read more

Emma

Emma from Slovakia: ”I have more confidence to use English”

Emma, a student from Slovakia, was looking for a place to improve English and she ended up opting for EC’s ESL School in San Francisco. She studied at EC San Francisco for 6 weeks, where she quickly improved her English and met people from all around the world. Now she has much confidence to use English. Here is what Emma had to say:   Before I came here, I have had English classes in Slovakia for 12 years. When I came here, I was able to understand almost everything but I wasn’t able to speak and express my feelings. I came to EC San Francisco scared and determined to improve my English. I started in intermediate class. I had problems with speaking and using right grammar, so I focused on those points. After one week, I had more confidence about my English. My teachers were patient with what all students spoke. They tried to explain everything to everyone carefully. My exit test showed me that my level is still intermediate. However, I feel as if my English is 100 percent better than before. I met a lot of new people from different countries. I made many friends for life and now I know something interesting about some countries. EC San Francisco gave me the best experience of my life. What I like the most about EC SF is that the director and school ambassadors do the best for making good friendships between students. It doesn’t matter if you are from Colombia, Slovakia or Japan. It also doesn’t matter if you are young or older. Of course, there are some differences but we can be friends with anybody. Every week we could join free classes about California history and culture, writing and pronunciation. Almost every day, we had different activities … Read more

Miho from Japan

Miho from Japan: “I had wonderful memories with all my friends”

Miho, a student from Japan, was looking for a place to continue to study English and she ended up opting for EC’s ESL School in San Francisco. She studied at EC for four and half months after other school in San Francisco, where she improved her English and met people from all around the world. Here is what Miho had to say:   I often came to San Francisco to travel and stayed here for a few weeks because I wanted to improve my English skill, but it was not enough to learn English. I wanted to experience the local lifestyle during studying English in the USA. After that, I quit my job and I came here to improve more my English. I have stayed in San Francisco for one year and two months that was one of my dreams. San Francisco is an amazing city because there are many different cultural things in urban areas. On the other hand, if buses run in a few minutes, there are such beautiful parks and beaches. I went to the Baker Beach and then I took a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge that was a magnificent view!! I lived in the East Bay with my friend. Her husband is a native speaker. They always invited me to join a public holiday event of the USA with their family. I joined Trick-or-Treat of Halloween, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner and fireworks for 4th of July that were such great experiences for knowing various cultures of the USA. The atmosphere of the East Bay and the Bay Area including San Francisco is also different from my country, so I really enjoyed both of the areas. In addition, EC San Francisco is an amazing school because there are many wonderful teachers and staff. They … Read more
