Vancouver Aquarium

The Vancouver Aquarium is Canada’s largest aquarium and one of the most visited sites in Stanley Park. It is home to more than 70,000 creatures including dolphins, sea otters, anacondas, three-toed sloths, eels and more. The Vancouver Aquarium is widely respected for its research and marine stewardship, and visitors can learn more about the region’s marine life through the numerous exhibits. Adults and kids alike will love the entertaining and educational “encounters” program, which allows visitors to go behind the scenes and get up close and personal with the animals and the people who train them. This includes feeding, helping train and learning about the habitats and lifestyles of dolphins, sea lions, sea otters, sea turtles and other sea creatures. The permanent marine animal displays are as diverse as the ocean itself. In the Amazon gallery, creatures slither, swim and splash around. Another features 22 species of frogs, toads and salamanders in the Frogs Forever? exhibit, which talks about the extinction facing many of the amphibian species. There are also exhibits focusing on butterflies, Artic creatures, tropical waters, dolphins, otters, seals, the British Columbia coast and more. The aquarium focuses heavily on species native to the Pacific Northwest. Yup, if it swims or lives in an ocean, lake, river or stream, there’s a good chance the Vancouver Aquarium has an informative display around it. Throughout the year, the marine life housed in the Aquarium comes to life in the form of entertaining and educational shows that include the popular dolphin demonstrations, feedings, reef shark performances, and talks that focus on habitats, conservation and more. The various shows are generally scheduled every 45 minutes, and the aquarium also features special events regularly.   Planning to come to Canada to study English? My experience in Vancouver has been awesome; since I arrived it has been perfect! I have met many people from different countries who are now are my friends, and I have been able to visit different places around British Columbia and Alberta like Victoria, Hope, Tofino and Banff. Also I can improve my English with an incredible process in EC because when I arrived six month ago I couldn`t speak, read or write anything! I consider my progress very successful. My plan for the future is to start studying at University and at the same time work in Vancouver.   —– Planning to come to Canada to improve your English skills? Loris Buhler from Switzerland shares his EC experience!

Loris Janosch Buehler from Switzerland shares his EC Vancouver experience while attending the Cambridge ESOL course (CPE) and TOEFL course in Vancouver. Hi there! I am Loris from Switzerland and I’d like to take you on a journey through my experience in Canada as well as in EC Vancouver. First of all, prepare yourself for some wonderful stories! It all started in September last year, when the airplane to Canada took off in Zurich. I couldn’t help but feel nervous during the flight, but before I left Switzerland someone had told me that exactly this feeling is what travelling is all about. After an almost never-ending flight to Vancouver I finally arrived exhausted at the International Airport in Vancouver. Due to special climate conditions which are called Indian Summer, warm or almost hot temperatures were waiting for me when I left the airport. Suddenly an overwhelming feeling of being home overcame me and I knew I came to the right place at the right time. After being welcomed by my charming host family, I quickly settled down and explored Vancouver on my own. The city is truly amazing, let some examples speak instead of my words. Not even five seconds passed when I had grabbed my city map and tried to locate myself that some locals approached me and tried to help me. That’s something you hardly experience in Switzerland or any other country I have been before. Not only are Canadians or the citizens of Vancouver friendly, but they also use every situation to start some small talk and chat with you. I really appreciated that and it was part of the reason I started to like Vancouver. My Cambridge course in EC started on Monday. Not only was I warmly welcomed by the staff of EC, but also the quick … Read more

Jorge Dourado Neto’s Testimonial!

Jorge Dourado Neto from Brazil shares his experience while attending CAE Cambridge course in Vancouver. My name is Jorge, I am from Brazil. I am 18 years old. I came to Vancouver, as my father who likes skiing came with his wife to go to whistler 3 years ago and he wanted me to visit. When he went back from his trip, he was impressed by how friendly and polite the Canadians are! He also told me that his dream was for me to come to Vancouver to study English. His exact words were: “since today everybody has to speak English, because it is the most spoken language in the world.” this is why, I am here in EC to study English. Vancouver is one of the best cities that I have ever been to! If you compare it to any other city in Canada, it is the warmest city, where you can go to the beach in the summer, and you can also go skiing in the winter. I must also mention that the public transportation in Vancouver is fantastic. Everything works on time, and you can get updates on real time traffic by test message straight to your mobile phone if you need to know bus (buses) times. My life in Vancouver is incomparable. My home stay is amazing, they are like my second family, and the most interesting thing is that they treat me like a real son! I really enjoy it! They took me for swim in the ocean and also for cycling in Stanley Park, for this reason, I have done a lot of activities with them! In addition, another fantastic point for living in Vancouver is that you can find people from all of the world. If you are under 19, don’t worry about … Read more

Silvano Stecher: A great Alumni story!

Silvano Stecher, from Switzerland, shares his experience while attending the Cambridge ESOL Course in Vancouver. Ueila! I am Silvano from Switzerland. I grew up in a tiny village in the Swiss mountains. Before I arrived here in Canada, I finished my apprenticeship and my military service.  The problem was I just had to wait over 6 months before I could start at university. How could I kill this time? The answer was going to somewhere abroad. I chose Vancouver because I love the combination of mountains and sea. During the winter, you can go skiing at the Rockies and in the summer walk at the beach or in Stanley Park. I have studied at EC for 3 months. It was just an amazing and wonderful time. I met a lot of new friends all over the world, such as: Brazilians, Colombians, Japanese, Mexicans, Koreans etc. It’s great to have so many friends and enjoy Vancouver with them. I hope to see them again in the future! EC Vancouver offers a huge variety of activities during the week and also the weekends. The teachers are great and the staff are very friendly. What I really appreciate is that the environment is very clean and everybody is so helpful and friendly. That makes an ideal atmosphere for studying and learning English. You will also do a lot of activities outside of school time, for example international dinner, Extreme Air Park, Paintball or Canucks games. Just an unforgettable time! ===== EC offers various English Courses, including TOEFL in Vancouver.

Sora Yoon from Korea: “I can say with confidence that I have learned a lot in EC.”

My long trip, from last summer in Vancouver, started with an idea which was the only way that I could avoid my reality. I struggled with thoughts that I did not fit in my new school and, to be honest, I truly wanted to escape from that. Eventually, thanks to supportive parents, I was able to come here to study, meet many friends, and think about my future. The time that I joined EC in Vancouver was last October. At that time, I was looking for something different class and I came across the school on the Internet. I cannot believe that it has already been five months since I started to go to school. During the time, I have attended TOFEL and Cambridge classes at EC Vancouver , which were really helpful. I can say with confidence that I have learned a lot in EC. For example, I actually wrote TOFEL test twice and the results are getting better. Also, I could get many good quality references, which would not be seen in any other places, from Cambridge class. Now, I am planning to attend IELTS class in EC and I strongly believe that it will be good, too. I cannot tell about my life in Vancouver without my friends whom I met here. I have met so many people who were very nice although each of them came from different countries. I could not imagine that I am going to have friends from Europe, South America, and other countries in Asia when I was in Korea. Therefore, I feel so sad whenever we have to say goodbye to each other. This is the saddest thing that happens in Vancouver, but I know we are going to meet someday in the future. It has been almost nine months since I came here … Read more

Yuka Oura (General English – High-Intermediate) shares her EC Vancouver experience. Hello everyone! Today, I’d like to talk about how wonderful my life in Vancouver is. My name is Yuka. I’m from Okinawa, Japan. I have been in EC Vancouver for nearly a month. (I wish I could stay here longer, though…) I love Vancouver! One of the reason why I came to Vancouver is that before I came here, all of my friends who had been in Vancouver told me that Vancouver is amazing in terms of lots of different kind of things such as nature, people, and cities. All of them told me the same. After I heard their stories, I always wanted to go to Vancouver and I made a decision to go to Vancouver right away. My decision was undoubtedly right. EC Vancouver, our school, is the best school to learn English. I’m currently taking a General English class in the morning, and am also taking an elective class in the afternoon. You are able to get a lot of chances to speak, write, read, and listen, which is fantastic. Also, my classmates are incredibly amazing. They study hard, are friendly, and are enthusiastic. They make me pretty highly motivated. I feel very comfortable taking classes with them. Most importantly, my teachers are awesome. They not only have great teaching skills, but also are always caring about us and encourage us. They are always there to help you. All of the teachers who I have learned from were amazing. Another thing that I’d like to tell you about is that the place that I’ve visited so far with my friends.
