How to get in the Christmas Spirit

Average: 3.8 (26 votes)

Christmas is my favourite holiday and my favourite time of year. Therefore, every year I do or take part in things that get me in the Christmas spirit. Here is a list of things to do if the spirit hasn’t hit you yet or if you are feeling a bit 'bah humbug'. Read through the list and then try and fit the words below into the correct gaps.

6 Christmas Things to Do

1. Go Ice Skating.

This is great fun and good exercise to make up for all that extra _1_ you will eat in the coming weeks! There are lots of beautiful ice rinks and the _2_ ones in London are particularly beautiful. Go with your friends, take lots of photos and try not to fall over too many times!

2. Make and drink some mulled wine or egg-nog.

All you need to make mulled wine is a bottle of red wine and a variety of herbs and _3_. In lots of supermarkets you can find the mulled wine spices all blended together in a bag that you boil with the wine, much easier! It makes the house smell amazing and is really _4_ on a cold day. For an egg-nog recipe, a favourite Christmas drink in The United States, check out this website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/eggnog_9370.

3. Go Christmas shopping to buy presents for your friends and family.

I love Christmas shopping. I recommend checking out a local Christmas _5_ which has more 'one of a kind' items and will be full of cheerful people. Whatever you do, don't leave present shopping until the last _6_; all you will find at the shops is extremely stressed people!

4. Decorate your house.

Most people seem to have ancient Christmas decorations hiding in a cupboard, so dig them out and start making your house look merry! If you can't find them and don’t want to buy expensive new ones, just make your own.

5. Go and see your local Christmas lights.

All over the world, cities, towns and villages light up at Christmas. Drive around the _7_ and see which houses have the most beautiful displays. Let us know where you are studying and how good the lights are in your area! I'm a big fan of the Christmas lights in Bogota this year. Are any of our students enjoying them too?

6. Watch a festive movie.

There are thousands of great Christmas movies to get you in the spirit, many of which you can watch with all the _8_. My personal favourites are Elf, The Holiday, The Santa Clause and Miracle on 34th Street. Watching them is also a good chance to practise your English!

I hope you enjoy the coming few weeks and have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
