Senior Youth Theatre Leader - Job Vacancy

CONTEXT

Chichester Festival Theatre produces theatre of the highest quality and strives for excellence throughout the Festival and Autumn seasons.

Chichester Festival Youth Theatre (CFYT) is one of the most celebrated youth theatres in the country. Now in its 26th Year with a membership approaching 550, CFYT currently runs 20 youth theatre sessions per week.

CFYT is an intrinsic part of Chichester Festival Theatre (CFT) and as such is a permanent youth company committed to producing theatre to the same standards of the Festival. CFYT puts on shows each year drawn entirely from its membership, ranging from promenade performances in the Festival to the Annual Festival Theatre Christmas Show.

A team of 9 sessional Youth Theatre Leaders run regular sessions, and work closely with the Youth Theatre Director to ensure its success. CFYT plan to expand membership to reach 650 participants over the next two years, and to create a further satellite group.

The Senior Youth Theatre Leader is an employee of Chichester Festival Theatre and is responsible to the Youth Theatre Director.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Full Time (including some evenings and weekends)

Circa £18,000 (1 Year Fixed Contract)

Responsible to: Youth Theatre Director

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To administrate and co-ordinate the youth theatre; to include regular updates of youth theatre database, registers, waiting lists and general correspondence to YT members and their families
  2. To assist the Youth Theatre Director programming the Youth Theatre
  3. To plan, facilitate, lead and evaluate weekly Youth Theatre workshops (up to 4 weekly sessions)
  4. To lead the development and sustain the quality of satellite youth theatre sessions
  5. To organise additional rehearsal space/venues when necessary
  6. To work on other projects and events as required by the Youth Theatre Director
  7. To work within agreed budgets

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Practical performing arts skills
  • Flair for facilitating and progressing young people making theatre
  • Enthusiasm for planning, organising and prioritising their work
  • Affinity for working with a diverse range of young people
  • Self starter & team player
  • Ability to strike a balance between administration responsibilities and practical tasks
  • Discretion in handling matters of confidentiality
  • Project management experience
  • Competence in Office ICT (especially Microsoft Windows, Outlook and Excel)
  • Risk assessment experience
  • Performing arts skills in musical or physical theatre
  • Driving licence and own car Updated CRB enhanced disclosure will be sought from the successful applicant
