Music Video Lesson: Joss Stone

Average: 3.1 (23 votes)

Let's learn English through songs. It's a fun and simple way for you to brush up on your listening skills. You can listen to the words over and over again until you can fully understand them. Learning English through songs is also a good way of picking up some natural English expressions especially slang words.

Joss Stone became famous in 2004, despite only having been 15 at the time. She has a very recognizable voice and writes her own music as well as covering famous songs. Here is one of her covers, 'Fell in Love with a Boy', originally by The White Stripes. Listen to the song and then complete the gaps with the missing words. To make the exercise harder, don't look at the list of eight missing words. Do you have any suggestions of songs we can use in our next English listening lesson? Good luck!

'Fell in Love with a Boy' Lyrics

Fell in love with a _1_
I fell in love once and most _2_
He's in love with the world
And sometimes these _3_ can be so _4_
He turns and says, "Are you alright?"
Oh, I must be _5_ cause my heart's still beating
Come and _6_ me by the riverside,
Sarah says it's cool, she don't consider it cheating

Oooh ooh ooh [x4]

Red hair with a curl
Mellow roll for the flavor and the eyes were peeping
Can't keep away from the boy
The two sides of my brain need to have a _7_
Can't think of anything to do
My left brain knows all of love is fleeting
He's just lookin for _8_ new
I said it once before but it bears repeating
