Vocab: Choose the correct definition

In this quiz, I’m going to give you a word and two definitions. Your job is to decide which definition is correct.

• Word 1 is: Adversity
  
  A difficult and continued situation e.g. ‘He showed courage in the face of adversity’.
  A mix of races and nationalities e.g. ‘There is a lot of adversity in London’.
  
  
• Word 2 is: Fickle
  
  To touch the body lightly to cause someone to laugh e.g. ‘When I fickle my baby she giggles and giggles’!
  Easily changed, not constant or loyal e.g. ‘One minute we’re friends the next she’s not talking to me. She’s so fickle’.
  
  
• Word 3 is: Naive
  
  A piece on a chessboard e.g. ‘move the naive four squares forward’.
  A person who shows a lack of experience or judgement e.g. ‘You won’t be able to get famous like that, don’t be so naive’.
  
  
• Word 4 is: Taboo
  
  An affectionate name for your partner e.g. ‘See you later taboo, I love you’!
  Considered by society to be improper or unacceptable e.g. ‘the programme was full of taboo language’.
  
  
• Word 5 is: Plagiarism
  
  To get a twitch in your leg e.g. ‘I’ve got a really bad plagiarism’.
  To use someone else’s thought or material as your own e.g. ‘Plagiarism is unacceptable and any student thought of committing it will automatically fail’.
  
  
• Word 6 is: Karma
  
  A spiritual theory that what you give out you will receive e.g. ‘What have I done to deserve this bad karma’?
  To feel relaxed e.g. ‘I feel so much karma in the bath’.
  
  
• Word 7 is: Eccentric
  
  To be of unusual or peculiar character e.g. ‘My uncle is quite eccentric, he always wears novelty ties’.
  To feel excited and anxious for something to happen e.g. ‘I can’t wait to go on holiday, I’m so eccentric’!
  
  
• Word 8 is: Vulnerable
  
  Open to being hurt e.g. ‘the elderly are vulnerable to nasty infections in the winter’.
  More than enjoyable e.g. ‘the funfair was amazing, it was vulnerable’!
